Remember that moron Unsullied who thought he could be angry about changes because he read the wikis that I posted about a while back? Here are his stupid thoughts on this movie: "Watched Mad Max Fury Road last night and I was greatly disappointed. Storyline could be decent but the entire movie is 2 hours of a car chase through a desert with crazy people. Tom Hardy wasnt overly good as Max. He failed completely to capture the anger and inherent craziness that Mel Gibson brought to the role. All he brought to the movie was a mediocre Mel Gibson impression in the 6 lines he had in the entire film. There was zero character development outside of the one crazy guy who ended up joining them half way through the movie. I enjoyed Charlize Theron in an unusual role and the cars and bad guys were traditional Mad Max but there was nothing to it but an endless car chase. All in all... not a great or even good movie unless you're in the mood for a 2 hour car chase with lots of explosions and have the need to vegetate on the couch and not need your brain."

Ah, I couldn't find this thread the other day, but I finally saw this on Monday. I enjoyed it quite a bit though I'm sure I'd have preferred it in 2d. I don't like 3d. I have to wear glasses over my glasses and it takes almost forty minutes for my eyes to get used to it all. Still, a very well-done action movie with brilliant setpiece after brilliant setpiece. If anyone can pick up where Mel left off in that part it's Tom Hardy who does the whole laconic, brooding shtick very well. Mad Max never had many lines in the original movies either, so I don't really understand that being something some people were angry about. Also it was written and directed by George Miller like the first three so stylistically there was a great sense of continuity.
I'm surprised there was so much ideological debate about the movie from the usual suspects; the angry-feminists-on-the-internet and the angry-anti-feminists-on-the-internet. Both seemed to be exaggerating and ignoring aspects of the movie in order to find a good excuse to rant about something. If that's what film criticism has become, the praising or insulting of a piece because of its perceived ideological intent rather than it's merits as a piece of art and/or entertainment, (and in too many cases it has) then that's a pretty sad thing.
Ah well. It was very fun though. I'm sure I'd enjoy it even more if it had've been in 2d.

Had he talked more my exploding ovaries would have painted the cinema red.

But Riley...oh, lovely.

None of the Mad Max movies has much dialogue, although I do think Fury Road is the one who has the least of all of them. IMO it deserves credit for being able to tell the story and give the audience all the information they need without using loads of narration or dialogue. I'd say is kind of refreshing, just like it was the fact that the female characters were treated as characters and not objects, or the fact that this is probably the only dystopian future movie I've seen in a while that has color in it, and beautiful scenery. Or the fact that they managed to make a two hour car chase meaningful thanks to the premise. And that most of the stunts were real instead of CGI that looks fake and defies the laws of physics.
It also had a flamethrower guitar. That automatically makes the movie awesome

I dont think he said anything in the first two movies or FR that didnt advance the plot or develop his character in some way. Its a massive credit to the writing. Im not too big on the third movie.

I knew nothing about Mad Max, had absolutely no interest in seeing this, got dragged, and shit on my fucking dick dude, what a piece of art. Amazing cinematography, directing, lighting, color all amazing. It felt like one big chase scene and it was insane. Nux was easily the best part. Oh, what a lovely day indeed! The Road Warrior is the best of the Mel Gibson ones. You oughta check it out. Correction One of the best movies of all time. Hands down.

Seems unfair to compare a modern blockbuster with a giant budget with a classic from nearly thirty years ago, that had a fraction of the budget. I thought they were both great films. but Road Warrior was better... Though I do love Furiosa. Hope they make a spin off movie with her instead of a fury road sequel. Max's story is over anyway. But theres still plenty they could do with her.

I don't think budget and when they were made makes it unfair to compare then to FR. Look at how much better the original Star Wars Trilogy is than the prequels. Fury Road used mostly practical effects too, most of which could have been done back in the day.

I agree it would be interesting to know more about Furiosa, but I don't think it will happen. This is just a personal impression, but when I watched the other Mad Max movies I had the feeling that Max was used as a vehicle to explore the world he lives in (not so much in the first one, but still), he is the character that ties the different stories together.
For me Fury Road was better than Road Warrior, but it is also true that it had way more budget and resources than Road Warrior ever did. It's the story for me, I connected more with the characters in Fury Road than I did with the ones in Road Warrior. But I agree with @stannisforking299al about the third one, is not as good as the others.

Anybody who doesn't love this movie doesn't deserve the gift that Miller gave the world.

I just always love Road Warrior. In terms of story Fury Road has more substance. But Road Warrior is one of those films with an atmosphere you can only really pull off once. That and seeing as how Fury Road is dual protagonist, I look at it as Furiosa's story as well as Max's. And she's a great character as well. As for the Star Wars prequels. You can have all the budget in the world. But lazy production and sloppy writing cant be masked by CGI. Ever see Belated Medias what if episode 1 or Episode 2 were good videos? Theyre what could have been. Depressing.

But I agree with @stannisforking299al about the third one, is not as good as the others. Theres only so much you can do with Max though. He cant really have a conventional happy ending. He's a walking metaphor for the apocalypse. His old life is gone the present is bleak, but there is hope for the future. I think RW had the best ending with the line "he lives now, only in my memory." That one always gives me chills. The ending to every film is ambiguous. Its what makes the character so great. I think doing too much with Max would strain that, even though Fury Road Max was perfect and Tom Hardy did a great job. Putting too much into Max's story would strain his character. Whereas Furiosa is pretty much a blank slate to work on. Even a spinoff series, like they did with Agent Carter would be cool. I hope they do something with her. She has a lot of potential left.
