Yara's attack on the Dreadfort was dumb as fuck and editing had nothing to do with that. Finding Theon and getting so close to killing Ramsay only to get chased away by a bunch of dogs made Yara and the rest of the Ironborn look pathetic. Sounds about right to me. Ramsay nailed it when he said the krakens crumple up on land.

I think all of us who read the books had different impressions on how the Children of the Forest would look from one another as well as how they chose to portray them on the show. It's a tough one because while George is very good at giving a lot of great detail about looks, sometimes the overall feel is still vague and somewhat mysterious which is likely intentional and that's how I always felt about the children. I sort of imagined elf-like almost dryad type fantasy based creatures who had a slightly youthful/childlike look, but not actual 'children' or even tiny. Maybe thin, and shorter but not little people! I don't know how they would find actors who had just the right look. An "old soul" child is what they went with I think... one who could be mistaken for a child or a very small adult. I wasn't as disappointed with the looks as I was the special effects they used for the fire balls and the wights/skeleton things. I thought those could have been done much better compared to some of the other great CGI they've done. Yeah, I'm not really sure how they could have captured all that with any actors, but Bloodraven could have looked cooletr with the root going into his empty eye socket and the big birthmark and all that shit.

I imagined them differently, and the fireballs sure were ridiculous, but for some reason I was okay with that. But since people are talking about Yara... I think it was THE worst moment in the whole series so far. We can talk bad about Dorne in S05, but Yara was just to pathetic it hurt.

I didn't have many issues with the CoTF scene, it reminded me of an old Harryhausen flick like Jason and the Argonauts. The only thing that bothered me was the shot of the disembodied hand stabbing Jojen repeatedly, I don't know if it was the editing or what, but it was awkward and perhaps even comical.
As for Bloodraven, he was about what I expected, I didn't miss the eye-branch, what was important to me is that the scene felt other-worldly, and I think the direction conveyed that. The "but you will fly" line was exciting and foreboding.
