I think people have mentioned it, but for me it's kind of beside the point. I mean Ramsay would see a trueborn son as a threat no matter what. Roose even says in the books that Ramsay would probably kill any sons he may have but it wouldn't bother him. Yet Ramsay seems to act better (this is more of a show thing although not totally absent from the books) when he has something to prove, rather than resting on his laurels, so it makes sense for Roose to let it hang over him.

To continue my own train of thought here ... "unless he just intends to have Ramsay killed off once the child is confirmed a son and healthy?"... would be a terrifyingly beautiful thing and such evil karma! Maybe Roose wants Ramsay to marry Sansa since he can't himself (already hitched to Walda) that way when he offs Ramsay he'll have a Stark in residence AND a Frey AND a baby heir to boot. Maybe if he hopes Sansa gets pregnant too, he'll have a grand-baby to play with his own kid to boot hah!
