We can add "Kyra" to the list of names I got wrong. Myranda mentioned her when talking to Sansa and pronounced it like "Keira" I thought it was Ky (rhymes with fly) ra

(I once dog-sitted a wiener dog with this name, very awkward when then there's a feral dog named like that in the books.  ) |

I learned Egg-on from Shireen, right along with Davos (whose name I pronounced Dave-os until tv taught me Daa-vos.) Early on, HBO had posted a list on their website of pronunciations for the characters and that changed a lot of names I'd been pronouncing differently in the books. That list corrected my Are-ee-ah to Are-ya and San-sa to Sahn-sa (or was it the other way around? can't remember), but then other characters, even the Starks themselves, pronounced each of those 2 differently, so WTF?
Corrections I made over time, most d/t tv show:
Ri-con' became Rick-on
Kate-lyn became Cat-lyn
My-ster became May-ster
Sir became Sare
For Cerwyn, I thought "Ser-win", not "Ker-win", so that's new.
Damp-hair has always been damp-hair to me, cracked me up from the very beginning and convinced me Martin had a wicked sense of humor.

I say Jaime without the "e"-sound at the end. Sort of like how the name "Jane" is pronounced, but with an "m". It always seemed kinda weird to me that Jaime is supposed to be pronounced the same way as Jamie.

It always seemed kinda weird to me that Jaime is supposed to be pronounced the same way as Jamie. If I hadn't heard his name in the show before, I would pronounce it the spanish/portugese way, like "High-me". |

I was wondering about the pronunciation in the series.
The other day I was talking to a friend about the series and he brought up the free cities. He pronounced Myr as Mire, and Lys as Lice. I usually pronounce them as Murr and Liss. I looked it up and found some other weird pronunciations people have, Brayvos, Volantees, Terosh, Terells, Aarrens...
Does anyone have any words in the series that they pronounce, or thought were pronounced differently when you saw them written to how other people, or the show pronounce them? Also, is there any kind of guide to how they're supposed to be pronounced, because I once saw an interview with George saying the names "Stonnis" and "Dayvos" so I'm wondering if George has ever corrected people pronunciation at all?
