This is a topic that could last an eternity, I'm sure. George has gone on record to say that he has no fucks to give about the pronunciation of the names, and that it's entirely down to you. So, how you say them?
Ay-gon or Egg-gon?
Damp-hair or Dam-fair?
Tie-rell or Tih-rell?
Are-ya or Are-ee-ah?
Cat-lin or Kate-lin?
When it comes to Targaryen names, how I pronounce the name varies. I say most "ae" sounds as "ay", with the exception of Daenerys (Den-eh-riss) and Aegon (Egg-on, simply because of "Dunk and Egg"). But I say Ray-gar etc. I also say the "ys" sounds similarly to how I would say Sophocles or Damocles. Again, Daenerys being an exception along with Viserys. But for Aerys I would say "Ay-reez", Aenys I would say "Ay-neez" etc. One Targaryen name I'm curious about is Rhaella because I think I say that weird, "Ray-ell-ah", rather than "Ray-lah" or "Rell-ah".

but i say Air-ris (Aerys)

Ray-ella (Rhaella)
I really hate when people pronounce Stannis as 'Stah-nis'. I say it the non-poshy way "Stan-nis"
Also the show pronounces Tysha as "Ti-sha" whereas i say "tee-sha"
Do you say 'Ash-a' or 'Ah-sha'
Nymeria can be said like: "Nye-meria" or "Ne-meria". I say "ne-meria".
Oh and Cersei. I say "Sir-see" not "Sir-say"

I had trouble this year with Kevan Lannister which I always pronounced as Kay-vahn in my head, mostly because I had a friend in high school with that name. It sounded much cooler for a fantasy character than Kevin.

I swear I'm occasionally dyslexic because I completely reverse letters in some of the character's names, or replace new letters all together.
Areo - I was reading it "Aero" for the longest time.
Victarian - I was reading Victorian.
Selyse - I was reading as Selsye" (pronouncing it sel-see) in my head.
Viserion - Viseron (missing that "I")

I say DOR-an, one of my biggest problems with the show is that they pronounce Doran on the same way the band Duran Duran

Any time I see "ae" I pronounce it as -ay. Like Ray-gar or May-gor, I would say Ay-gon, Ay-nis, etc.
I used to say "Damfair" until I realised it was "Damp-hair"

In Finland we pronounce things just like they are written. It is really hard to explain. So when I read I usually just read the names how they are written (Except real life names, like Jaime and Jon, them I pronounce like they are supposed to). But when I read the english text, this is how I say the names listed
Ay-gon (I honestly don't understand how can you say it as Egg-gon)
Damp-hair
Tie-rell
Are-ee-ah
Kate-lin
Ey-reez

OMG I feel so stupid. I never even thought of Damphair being damp-hair. I was always pronouncing it Dam-fair.

It wasn't until like my 5th re-watch of s1 that I noticed the show just pronounces it Uncle Kevin. So I was out of town this weekend and got to watch HBO legally in a motel, so re-watching 5.03 (before 5.04) with the captions was how I figured out which lord Ramsay flayed. It had me confused before because I read Cerwyn as closer to Ser-win than Ker-win. |

I've always read: "Cat-lyn", "Damp-hair", "Ser-say", "Ay-gon" and "Tih-Rell". But then the show came, and I changed to "Ser-see" and "Tie-rell". The other ones remained the same... And eventually, I came back to my previous pronunciation, as I realized it would be fun to stick to my first impressions |

I rewatched Boltons' dinner scene from High Sparrow and realized I have always said Cerwyn wrong. I always believed it was said like Serwyn, but instead it is Kerwyn.
