Straightforward question! Do you think the Aegon we meet with Tyrion in ADWD is Aegon Targaryen or fAegon?

I think he's a Blackfyre pretender. At least I hope that he is, because Blackfyres are awesome!

I used to dislike the idea he was a fake - but the purist in me was long ago burnt out by all the twists in the books and it makes for a much better story if he is a fake anyways. Since it really doesn't matter if someone's a true heir or not in order to sit on the iron throne (Joffrey and Tommen for example). A fake could actually pull it off if well loved enough.
And I agree with Diablotion, the Blackfyres are awesome and it would be great to have them as players in the game!

I think he's a pretender but I also think he doesn't know it. Which, if you think about it, is even more brilliant. Dramatic irony is always great and Mr. Martin is particularly good at it and has done it a lot with various POV other than the character in focus so it works so well and Aegon not realizing he's not the real deal would keep everyone on edge wondering how or when someone will invariably spill the beans on him (Which is something we've been waiting forever to happen with the fake Baratheon kids too).

I think he's a pretender but I also think he doesn't know it. I agree, it seems to me that only Varys and Illyrio know and have left JonCon (etc) in the dark.

Yeah, I agree that he's not really Aegon but he's been led to believe that he is.

Definitely a fake, though he probably believes he's really Aegon, that sweet summer child.

Fake.
Though only Illyrio and Varys know it.

100% fAegon, maybe 70% sold on his being a Blackfyre.

I'm gonna go with Aegon. Why? I've no support for this whatsoever. I just think Dany needs a rival for the title of "rightful" heir to the Throne. It'll create more dramatic tension and perhaps "force" her into alliances with other characters that she would have previously been predisposed to simply execute as being in the Usurper camp (Tyrion, say... or Jon, perhaps).

I kind of hope fAegon goes the route of Quentyn, tries to tame one of Dany's dragons, only gets burned to a crisp.
Viserion should get the honor.

Who better to burn him than the dragon named after his faux father? Though, in all seriousness, I expect someone in Aegon's group to ride a dragon. Not sure how that will happen, but it could be that when Daenerys arrives they are not openly opposed to each other. After all, Dany does desire a family a great deal, so I think she would be open to the idea Aegon lives, if only because it satisfies that need inside her. I don't imagine things will stay like that for lon of course, due to a number of factors: Dany discovering he is false, Arianne poisoning Aegon against her, Varys/Illyrio pulling strings etc. But during their peaceful period, could be Aegon and co. acquire a dragon.

I think he is a fake because of the HotU and Quaithe's prophecies, referring to a "mummer's dragon". But I don't think we will ever really know if he is a fake or not. It will be one of those "open to interpretation" things. (Like, who was the Tyrell who poisoned Joffrey, or are the Frey pies really Frey pies? Not a clear answear, but we can assume from clues...)

He's fake for sure, no question. Illyrio's son 100%.
Although he himself believes he is the son of Rhaegar. But he's not.

Agreed with those who he say he is a fake, but doesn't know it. A Blackfyre, which is probably why GRRM used the Golden Company (a group made of the descendants of Blackfyre supporters) as the army he uses to go to Westeros.
IMO he will get the throne, everyone will love him for bringing peace to Westeros, and then Dany will arrive and kill him

I just hope that new wrinkle that GRRM had decided to go with this is that fAegon is now Aegon. The change adds up to me. The showrunners discard him because he's a fake and GRRM wants to throw us a wrinkle. He's not going to change something else last minute like Jon's parents. Is it Aegon? www.ew.com/article/2015/04/03/george-rr-martin-winds-date
