I loved older Rhaenyra, both actresses were great but I find Emma incredibly hypnotic for some reason. I'm convinced they will amazing in the role.
Sadly, I think this episode has some serious pacing issues. It feels jarring how much they included in the episode when they took their time with the first five. It's likely they are doing it because they want the Dance to start by the end of the season, but it would have been nice to spend a few more scenes with all the new characters.
Bye baby daddy Harwin, you were a fine, fine man.

Agreed on the pacing. I feel like Harwin and especially Laena didn’t get enough time devoted to them for their endings to have as much weight. Kinda feels like they’re just there to be the father and mother to Rhaenyra and Daemon’s children, and now that their purpose is fulfilled they’re no longer needed. I think Laena’s been in the same number of episodes as Laenor but I have a much better idea of him as a character than her. I've also noticed that despite being in the main cast Rhaenys and Mysaria have been very absent and not had nearly as much effort put into them (so far). One thing that was good about early GoT were all the small scenes between characters that didn't move the plot forward at all but helped give the audience a good sense of who the characters are. There's been some of that in HotD, like between young Rhaenyra and Alicent, but this episode in particular was very a go-go-go all-plot no-talk kinda deal. I hope we don't lose those scenes going forward. I loved older Rhaenyra, both actresses were great but I find Emma incredibly hypnotic for some reason. I'm convinced they will amazing in the role. I felt the same! There’s just something about their performance that really draws you in. All of the new cast are really solid, D’Arcy and Cooke being the standouts of course. After ragging on Laenor’s previous actor for being a bit wooden I feel compelled to say the new actor is a significant improvement - this man’s charisma has charisma. And while the Velaryon boys are a bit thin at the moment Alicent’s kids have all got pretty strong starts. Really great job at making Aemond of all people sympathetic, and poor Helaena just wants to play with her bugs. More thoughts: - Viserys is actually missing an arm now - I appreciate these details that they’ve not been drawing too much attention to.
- Criston Cole is such a petty little bitch now, I love it.
- One detail I like in F&B is that historians could never really work out Larys’ motivations, I hope they continue to keep him kinda vague and creepy, it helps make him really distinct.
- The title sequence - ok this is getting on my nerves a bit now. I can tell that a lot of effort has been put into the title sequence, and I’m sure the creators are very proud and have a very good idea of what it conveys, but man that is just not coming across to me. It’s honestly making me feel like an idiot, but I think in reality it’s just too fast and too vague to make sense of on a first viewing. Those are my thoughts on it anyway.
- Also I swear they cut a scene with Daemon and his daughters on the roof, one where he actually spoke to them instead of coldly leaving them to grieve - I’m sure it was one of the preview pictures they released last week so it’s strange that they would leave it out.
Very excited for next week's episode!

Criston Cole...
I once saw someone call him Crincel and now I can't unsee it. Especially when he called Rhaenyra a cunt.

Sort of a jolt moving 10 yrs forward suddenly. It’s probably b/ c I don’t liked change, but it feels like all of a sudden it’s a different story. But laying the groundwork for the EPS to come, I think.
Sorry to lose Laena, she seemed so good managing Daemon and it seemed they had a good marriage. Pretty good, considering this is George Martin deal, and I pretty much love every single thing he’s written.
Also, it does seem L and R could have gotten together and produced at least one silver haired child.
Aegon masturbating in the same window Tommen suicided from.

I was behind on this episode, hubby had to work last Sunday, so we were late watching. I really do enjoy the older actors, they are doing a good job. I would have liked to have seen the fall out of Joffrey's death. How did Crincel get to stay in his job? I really wish we had more of Harwin and Laena. Larys is perfectly creepy.

The Cole thing is interesting - the start of the fight is obviously left a bit ambiguous for the audience, I assume intentionally to get across the idea that none of the characters knew exactly how it started either. So given that we saw Joffrey with a dagger, they probably gave Cole the benefit of the doubt that he was "protecting" the royal family. And if there are any further questions then he has Alicent now to vouch for him.
I've seen this aspect questioned a lot since that episode and I think the show could've done a bit more work in explaining how that played out - in the book Joffrey's death was an "accident" at a tourney, so by changing it to the wedding they arguably have to give a bit more of an explanation for Cole's actions.
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I also think though that these sorts of pitfalls aren't a result of the showrunners being lazy or just not bothering to give any explanation (both seen many times in GoT) and more that there's a certain level of trust in the audience to put these pieces together without having to write the scenes. I don't think the pacing of the episode would necessarily be improved by Viserys interrogating Cole on his killing of some random knight. Maybe there would've been better ways of handling that though.
This is something that's been on my mind for a while - didn't mean to unload it all on you!
