It was a really good episode last night. I don't know that I want Maisie's character as a companion (after seeing last night's episode, I kind of changed my mind on Maisie's character as a companion) but running into the Doctor from time to time...that would be fab. Her showing up in the photo at the end was downright spooky. I am hearing Maisie might appear in episode 10. The Radio Times is reporting that Jenna Coleman asked Steven Moffat to not have the new companion appear while Jenna was still on the show. Whether or not he honored her request remains to be seen. Yeah, I've changed my mind on her becoming a companion. IMO what they did with the character was really interesting (and probably pretty realistic. No human could live that long and not go insane. Although I do kind of wish she didn't suddenly realise that she did care and that she wasn't a horrible person at the end. IMO it would have been pretty excellent storytelling if the Doctor, in an effort to save her life, made it impossible for her to die and (in his own Doctor-y way) abandoned her to basically go mad and become an antagonist of sorts. I guess they could still go down that road. I know she stated she would be looking after the people the Doctor leaves behind, but her standing in the background of that photo with Clara was super sinister.

YES to all that you said, especially the bolded. I did not take her appearing the background of a photo of Clara to be a good thing.

Maisie was on last night...I don't want to be too spoilery in case anyone has not watched it yet. But Clara reached the end of her line and I had couple very minor problems with it. But I would have rated the episode a 7.5/10, a solid one. We'll see how the Doctor carries on from here. Rigsy's tribute to her on the Tardis was the highlight of the episode for me.

kingeomer Maisie is back in the finale! I'm a little worried for her, I'm not going to lie! I hope she can remain a part of the show, occasionally popping up for guest spots here and there (like River Song, but not as frequent), but... valar morghulis and her character is already approx. 1000 years older than she should be

My TV cut off the promo for next week. I would not mind seeing Maisie pop up every now and again like River Song. They seem to like her at Doctor Who they keep her around. It was an excellent episode for Capaldi!

@fireandblood FYI: Donald Sumpter, our very much missed Maester Luwin, is in the cast for the finale as well.
And the trailer for the Christmas special has been released along with the title: The Husbands of River Song.

Maisie has been amazing in Doctor Who, and I'm sad to see her leave Hopefully she will pop up once in a while, her character is really interesting, what they did with her, showing how much she changes as times goes by, from a young and naive young girl full of ideas and good intentions to someone desperate to change her life and jaded due to all the suffering she has gone through to someone who decides to help others but in a brutal way to someone so old and serene, she is completely unafraid of the Doctor even when he has incredebly pissed off at her. And maybe whoever is in charge of GOT's make-up and wardrobe can take a few notes because Maisie had more outfits in a four epidoes of Who than in five seasons of GOT, which is hilarious and sad at the same time. And the River haters are usually the Moffat haters, so they will be unhappy with the show as long as he is in charge.

Yay for more Doctor Who fans! I really liked Maisie on the show, I thought she did a good job and I hope we see her character pop up from time to time. Of course, she might have to drop some dialogue about where Clara is too. I did not even notice that Maisie had more outfits in DW than she has had in 5 years of GoT. That is hilarious. I thought the preview for the Christmas special looked like fun and I like River and Alex Kingston, so I am happy to see her back.

I thought the preview for the Christmas special looked like fun and I like River and Alex Kingston, so I am happy to see her back. I enjoy Doctor Who quite a lot, specially since Moffat became the showrunner. I know he can be a bit repetitive about the big mistery of the season and how fucking awesome the Doctor is, and the companions can suffer because of that, but I still prefer Moffat to R.T.D. This season alone has been near perfect, "Heaven Sent" is probably the best Who episode since it came back on air and Peter Capaldi nails every single episode. I'm optimistic about the Christmas special, Capaldi and Kingston as the Doctor and River together in the same episode sounds like a dream come true, but I've never been a big fan of any of the Christmas specials, so I'm not holding my breath. I think I was exaggerating when I said Maisie had more outfits in four episodes of Who than in five seasons of GOT, but not much. IIRC, she had two dresses and her training outfit in S1, then she spent three whole seasons with the same outfit (which I will always think was because Michele Clapton preferred to spend the budget in the super elegant dresses of KL, and fuck the other characters. I mean, Arya only had one set of clothes for three seasons, even though GRRM found ways to give her clean clothes once in a while in the books. Catelyn also had one or two dresses, which is weird because she was never on the run or anything like that) and then in season 5 she had the black and white tunic, and the Lana outfit. Oh and also the nightgown she wore when she killed Trant. A total of 7 outfits in five whole seasons. Now think about Doctor Who: she had the Ashildr viking outfit, then she had the bandit and countess dress, they also showed her with different clothes during the flashbacks of that episode as a medieval queen and when her children died, she was wearing new clothes in that picture where she was behind Clara, and in the raven episode and of course, the season finale. Which makes a total of 8 outfits for just four episodes. Wow, turns out I was not exaggerating. That's kind of sad. I know is petty and is probably because Arya is my favourite character, but it just pissed me off watching her season after season after season wearing the same horrible outfit. Maisie said that she got emotional when she filmed the scene in which she throws her clothes away and I feel her, I'd have burned that shit and danced around the ashes. Luckily that thing will never be seen again. Ever. But anyway, let's hope she comes back to Doctor Who someday, she was brilliant in it I'm glad Maisie had this chance

I did too. And I understand where you are coming from with the outfits. You would especially think that Arya would have more considering that she is a growing girl or at least show her clothes not fitting her anymore (sleeves and legs too short). 8 in a span of 4 episodes of Doctor Who versus 7 in 5 seasons. I do hope to see Maisie back on the show. I agree with you that Capaldi has been terrific. I thought his speech the second part of the Zygon Episode was stunning. I do hope that Peter will be the Doctor for more than 3 seasons.

She was so good! Sure, that weird lion villain wasn't great, but good episodes overall! I love this new season.
Btw, is it really quiet here? There's so many people online!

I've never seen the UK or US version of Broadchurch (from what I heard the US version stunk while the UK version is excellent) so if he brings UK version of Broadchurch quality to the show...then the outlook is hopeful. It will be a while before we hear of new companion and I hope they do not redo Doctor's BFF/soulmate dynamic again.
