There's has been plenty of tv shows, films, and books to read or watch, but i thought we can make a thread where we can recommenced series to anyone who have cannot endure to wait for season 8 to air in early 2018 or early 2019. Especially if there's people who do not like spoilers of the upcoming season.
I have plenty of series i highly suggest to those who should check it out and here are the ones i have in mind.
Berserk
Berserk is a seinen dark fantasy manga that was published in 1989 and it is still on-going while it has been on hiatus occasionally. Here is the synopsis of the story, taken from MAL:
This is considered by many to be one of, if not, the best manga of all time. It's currently in first place on the top rated list manga on Anime News Network and MAL. It's well-known for its beautiful detailed art, well-developed characters, heavy themes that dealt into medieval philosophical themes like death and problems of evil, and especially rich storylines. It contain some heavy dark contents like rape and gore and there's even a scene where it's shocking and gruesome that is the equivalent to The Red Wedding. So this is not for those who have the faint of heart.
From my view, i highly recommended this manga cause i see it as the manga equivalent to Asoiaf: both have medieval settings, great characters, sophisticated plot, explicit contents like sex and violence, and some action scenes. It should be noted that the manga didn't start off very grand, but once you indulge yourself further into it, the story gets very epic and the art definitely improved.
There are several adaptations to the manga. One is the 1997 tv anime that's consisted of 25 episodes and the other is in the form of movie trilogy. Both of them cover the first two popular arcs of the manga. A sequel to the trilogy was made in 2016 (which i don't checking this out due to the horrible CGI art and mishandle story).
While you guys can watch the 1997 series and the film trilogy, none of them captures the darkness and giddy of the manga and essence of it. Here are some the photos of the manga and the beautiful art.
More recommend series to come later.
