Watched the first episode of the Keepers. Sufficiently shook. I'm up to episode 3. Tried to watch Episode 4 but then my daughter woke up because it was thundering and she can hear grass grow, so we are watching episode 4 tonight. This show weighs heavy on my heart, I have to take a break after every episode. It's not a show I can watch back to back.

Zadeth since you started watching The Keepers too. I actually had to turn it off at about 1:00am on the night I was watching it because it was starting to freak me out a bit, sitting in the dark watching. I grew frustrated because so many people that had answers are dead.

I'll probably binge the series this weekend, I think I got half-way into the first episode before I got too disturbed and had to take a break. I find it amazing that those people just try and solve this murder on their own. I have to say, the testimonies from Sister Cathy's former students about her character was very warming and a lovely touch.

I grew frustrated because so many people that had answers are dead. That is frustrating. A lot of the leads are hearsay at this point and the answers they could be seeking---or at least get some clarity about---those people are dead. I have a question, I'm going to put it under spoilers because I'm up to episode 5 and I don't know how far TheMadQueen and Zadeth are... When the Schmidt story was being told and brother was talking about the uncles wrapping Sister Cathy's body in a rug from her apartment, I was a bit confused...wasn't Sister Russell home at the time? My other question is why didn't the Schmidt family and Edgar Davidson's family come clean sooner? Zadeth since you started watching The Keepers too. Absolutely, the fact that her students, all of whom are in their 60's now, are determined to find out what happened to her shows what an impact she made on them and the kind of person she was. This is a disturbing documentary and one of the things I find frustrating about the Catholic Church that their response was initially cover up, transfer rather then prosecute and dismiss. They are trying to do better today...but that's probably cold comfort to the past victims like the ones featured in this documentary.

I started to get a little lost at that point too, but from my understanding they weren't doing that at her apartment, but at the one where her uncle lived? I've been trying to follow along on their subreddit. The creator did an AMA the other day.

The prosecutor lady infuriates me. She was so evasive, it's obvious she had some hand in halting the investigation.
UGH

I started to get a little lost at that point too, but from my understanding they weren't doing that at her apartment, but at the one where her uncle lived? I've been trying to follow along on their subreddit. The creator did an AMA the other day. I will have to read their subreddit. I didn't know they had one. When the old ME showed a picture of Cathy's skull and the big old hole in the side of it, I don't know how they took her to the apartment without trailing blood around and when the ME said she probably survived that hit, I was like oh no...that's horrible. I was lost with the Billy Schmidt timeline and whether or not Sister Russell was home at the time...I looked online and no one says she was or wasn't. And Gerry Koob saying the detectives handed him Cathy's vagina wrapped up, I was like WTF? Mr. Kingeomer said as far as he knows about autopsy is yes they do examine the vagina but he's never heard of them ever removing it. I was frustrated by some aspects of them not asking certain questions to people...like I would have asked that ME that! I really didn't think Gerry had anything to do with Cathy's disappearance and murder but that vagina story...I am guessing the detectives were trying to break him. As for Edgar, I think he was involved but there is NO WAY he'd be fit to stand trial today. I think what i also found frustrating was the total lack of closure Joyce Malecki's family received and it was that her brother Don died in 2016. The prosecutor lady infuriates me. She was so evasive, it's obvious she had some hand in halting the investigation. UGH Oh yeah. She was shady as hell. When she said the catholic church "bought" her a red sports car, I wanted to smack her. I finished it. I felt like it ended abruptly. I really liked Jean, Gemma, Abbie, and Cathy's sister Marilyn (who just broke my heart but if Cathy was anything like her, I can see why people were drawn to Cathy-Marilyn seemed so charismatic and had the best smile) And everyone should have a Mike Wehner in their life. I have more spoilery thoughts in spoilers above, I don't want to spoil anyone who has not finished the documentary yet.

kingeomer I don't believe Koob's vagina story. That sounds like absolute bullshit, and I can't even think that those cops, shady as they are would put the effort into even faking that. The head of the sex crimes division lady is the worst. I can't believe how they let churches influence their decisions like this. It blows my mind.

It's very saddening that these scandals, abuse, and corruption are prevalent among the religious organizations. As someone who is Catholic, it's very disgusting to hear about these stuff. But especially those who wish to disguise these problems for their benefits; absolutely deplorable.
My heart goes to Cathy's acquaintances. I'm glad that they get to spoke about the issue for how many years.

I have been binging myself to 101 East's documentaries. It's super interesting hearing about the major social problems in several Asian countries. especially ones that i never heard about. It's well done and i highly recommended it to those who want to learn about it. Here are some examples of their series:

The only thing I could think of is them saying something was her vagina in order to "break" him. I thought the letter he said Cathy wrote him was also faked. Why would she typewrite a personal letter to a friend? Especially back in 1969. I had pen pals as a teen and I still handwrote them. I didn't trust Koob but I don't know if he had anything to do with her death. Sharon May was so arrogant. I don't know how a church should have that much sway over the criminal justice system?? I am with you Zadeth, as a Catholic-these stories are absolutely heartbreaking and it makes me angry that the church chose to cover up rather then handle it right away which would have avoided more victims. If the AoB got rid of Maskell when the young man, Charles, came forward, perhaps it would have spared those girls. It's just heart wrenching and awful. My heart goes out to those women as well.

The type written letter was another red flag, IMO. IIRC, she didn't even sign it, right? How do they know for sure that it came from Cathy?

To me it just seems so weird in 1969 to send a letter to a personal friend that is typewritten, not handwritten and it was not like he was that far from her (he was close enough for Sister Russell to call when she went missing). I also would like to know when Koob supposedly got that letter from Cathy too. Since her sister received a letter that was postmarked after she went missing (which to me, means nothing, she still could have written before she went missing and mailed it out) and that letter somehow got lost...

Another thing about Sister Russell, when the one sister was speaking (I forget her name, Maureen???) and she said Russell told her that she room for her to move in and she did and it dawned on her that she was sleeping on the same bed as Cathy and living in Cathy's former space...Sister Russell never breathed a word about Cathy to this nun and she NEVER asked. That seems so weird to me. Like, I would be like, "Are you okay Sister Russell? If you need to talk I'm here. I gotta move, kind of spooked I'm living in Cathy's old spot... do you miss Cathy? I do.") I don't get Koob either and I don't understand why they waited so long to call police.
