Finally finished Elden Ring. It's GOTY, the hype was justified. I'd be shocked if anything else comes out that has the same depth as it this year. I hope Starfield is this good, but given Bethesda's current track record, I've low expectations. Hogwarts Legacy looks promising, but I'm reserving expectations on that one. I did kind of joke about it before, but playing the game and reading all the lore, you can definitely see the GRRM-isms throughout, especially with the names and complex family trees, Godfrey, Godwyn, Godrick, Radagon, Rennala, Ranni, Rykard, Marikah, Malenia, Miquella... Story wise, its confusing as hell, but once you start to read about it all, everything fits in. Hell, even minor side characters, like Bernahl, Vykke or Blaidd have compelling and tragic stories that you only really find out about by reading item descriptions, exploring obscure locations, or overly dissecting snippets of dialogue, which is very reminiscent of a lot of background characters in ASOIAF. Perhaps I didn't give GRRM the credit he deserved here. Elden Ring has one of the best worlds in any SoulsBorne, or hell, most other games I've played. Yes, I gave up the throne for Ranni, and I'd do it again.

GOTY this year may well be between one of FromSoftware's best, most ambitious titles yet, or a fucking Lego game. What a time to be alive.

Probably. They did give him a VA in The Old Republic who wasn't too bad as Revan, that is if they go with a male Revan. They could give us a VA choice, or go in a completely different direction.
I'm onboard all the way regardless.

Yeeeeeeeeeee! They made my man beautiful. Also pretty sure that's Jenn Hale doing the voice over. Original VA ftw!

Elden Ring does exist and GRRM confirmed it's a Dark Souls sequel. That part may not be true, but still...

RE Village looks great.
Thirsty gamers wanting a giant vampire lady to step on their face was the best free advertising I think any company has ever got.

Many years late to this one, but Gotham is pretty good. How far through are you? I remember watching when it came out and I think I got to around the middle of season 2 before moving on to other things. The whole show seems to be on netflix now so I might give it a second shot, would you say it’s worth it? I'm up to season 4 now. The show is decent. I definitely wouldn't say its amazing but I enjoy it, even if certain elements in it do grate on my nerves ( cough Barbara Kean cough). It's all on Netflix so if you wanna pick it back up its there. All I would say in regards to that is the show doesn't exactly get worse imo, but the quality of the writing definitely doesn't improve either. I'm gonna ride it out at this point though. There is one thing that is beginning to get annoying though and that's the shows overuse of certain plot points. I'll spoiler tag because it is post season 2 content and you may still wanna watch it. In season 2 the show introduces the concept of resurrection via Hugo Strange and Indian Hill, and at first it's pretty cool. But then they suddenly start bringing back more and more people, and introducing new ways to revive them. First there's Indian Hill, which is fine, makes sense. But then we get the Lazarus Pit, which I suppose gets a pass for being in the original comics, but still. Then we just get really agregious examples, like a bunch of Joker fanatics who shocked corpses back to life, and perhaps the worst yet, a coma patient being dumped in a lake that just happened to contain evil science stuff. It's starting to really annoying me how much the show uses resurrection as a crutch for the narrative. Especially in situations where the show kills off characters in a satisfying or culminative fashion. At the end of season 1 Fish Mooney gets killed in a fairly satisfying way to cement Penguin's rise to the top. Its pretty much a high point as far as the writing goes. Then she gets brought back for some reason by Hugo Strange, just kind of lingers around in the background of the narrative, then dies in a random gunfight because reasons... That's just an example of course, but I'm sure you get the point. That said, the show has some bright spots, and it's mainly the villains for me. Jerome Valeska is definitely one of the better additions to the series and it will forever irk me that the showrunners were prevented from using the iconic green hair or Joker name at the time because of Suicide Squad of all things. We were robbed of the single most iconic Batman villain just so that Jared Leto could perform the single worst Joker of all time.

So a supposedly "leaked" Nintendo document claims that Final Fantasy VII remake is coming to switch, which is pretty cool, but also, so is my beloved Fallout New Vegas, meaning I can buy it a third time and play it a 1000th.
2021 seems to be going well so far.

I finally finished FFXV after about 2 years... The story is actually really good, I love the dynamic of the four friends, Ardyn as a villain, Noctis and Luna's relationship... It's just told in a very strange way.
The first half (honestly, the majority of the games playtime), is spent in a open world that feels kind of unnecessary to the plot, since the story only really gets interesting after you leave it and head to Altissia, at which point you get railroaded straight through to the end of the game, which is a bit sad, because the open world is actually quite well designed, but in the sense of the narrative, very little of it is really important.
Once the plot evolves though the game gets a lot more interesting. In terms of the villain, I kinda feel like Ardyn is one of the series more interesting bad guys. He has a fairly sympathetic motive, even if his plan is utterly evil. He's a lot less cliche than I initially thought him to be, and while he doesn't really break the mould of FF villains, (I can't really look at him without being reminded of Seymour or Vayne) he is far from a disappointment. He has a lot of personality to him, and that's something I always enjoy.
That said, the combat remained largely atrocious throughout. Most of the time I barely have any idea what's going on before I get hit, or hit the enemy. The link combos are cool and all, but I usually only hit them by accident while button mashing my way through fights. Then there are the fights that are entirely just on rail experiences where we button mash our way through. The worst of these being the Leviathan fight and the very end of the battle with Ardyn. I get they wanted to make these cinematic, but mashing the same button for five minutes while Noctis flies around gets old very quickly.
I'm fairly excited to play the DLC episodes. The characters were the strongest part of this, and they each get their own story so, hopefully once I finish those in 5 years time, I won't be disappointed... and FFXVI will finally release.

Cyberpunk is an absolute ugly and unplayable mess on the base PS4. I've honestly never seen a game this buggy. Sometimes, it takes up to a minute for the assets to load in properly, meanwhile, the game's textures look like something out of the PS1 era, or are missing altogether and you're surrounded by invisible walls. I dig the story so far, but it's so bad from a technical point of view that I'll probably wait for the PS5 version before I keep playing. Also, the customizable penis thing is kind of strange. I've nothing against it on a conceptual level ... on the contrary, I'm all for nudity and sexual content in games geared towards adults. But what's the point of the game allowing you to customize your junk and even adding jiggle physics when you're never going to see it outside of the inventory screeen? It's not visible during the sex scenes at all, and even when you take all of your character's clothes off, he's still wearing underwear in-game, even when he takes a shower. Like, let me see my penis when I look down, please. It's bad on last gen for sure. I didn't actually realise they were even gonna try a last gen release until I was talking about it with someone at work the other week. Don't see how they possibly expected a game on this scale to work on that tech without a proper redesign. Dunno if it was just them being greedy, or contracted to it or something, but yeah, it was a dumb move. Apparently a proper fix for the last gen consoles won't be available for a few months, but if that's the case, just delay the last gen release till it's ready... Yeah, the penis makes no sense. I took the option purely to see the reaction to people to me walking around with my junk out, but that's not an option apparently. Such a cock-tease.

As one of the few people Cyberpunk 2077 actually seems to work for, I just wanna say it's actually pretty fucken good.

Anyone played The Outer Worlds yet? That was pretty fun. Not yet, but I'm pretty sure I will at some point in the future. I've heard very good things, would you say it's worth a go? Yeah definitely. It's kind of a mix between Fallout new vegas and KOTOR, so if you like either of those games, it's probably for you. I've had a lot of fun with it.
