We're at an interesting stage in A Song of Ice and Fire fandom where we just entered the sixth season of the show. I don't need to tell you but most of the content here will be new and unpredictable. I was trying to reconcile the difference between the books and the show and the characters I loved. I realized that Jon Snow was one of my favorite characters in the book. I never really got on board with Kit Harrington. He just didn't embody Jon Snow the way I knew him in the first two seasons of the show. I will admit that he improved and by season four's big battle season he was a totally convincing hero, stealing my heart as he grasped his sword and defended the Wall from total defeat.
Then we saw the final chapter of A Dance with Dragons play out and I was officially heart broken. Of course, I didn't know how things would play out. The final book and episode left us with enough ambiguity to retain some semblance of hope. Which is important in an environment as harsh as Westeros. Then I was lucky enough to watch the season premier of Game of Thrones season 6. And by the way I'm going through some personal financial troubles where I just wonder when exactly Comcast will be like 'hold up, this motherfucker is behind. Cut him off!' So I'm enjoying this while I can.
Anyway, Last Sunday we watched the first episode of the show that didn't have a hero. I thought the season premier was very well done aside from a few cringe-worthy scenes. But I couldn't help sit back and wonder, who is our hero? This show has always subverted typical fantasy tropes, but more than ever, we're left wanting for characters to root for. Who are you rooting for now? Our Neds, Robbs, Oberyns of the story have been killed. Who are you standing up and cheering for now?
I'm rooting for Davos. He's the last morally driven character, especially now that Stannis is gone. He's only motivated by loyalty encouraged by Jon Snow's benevolence. He's going to be the catalyst for Jon Snow's revival which just might save the damn world from the White Walkers. If you told me back in season 2 that the Onion Knight would be an important character that helps save the world I would've been like 'naw, Robb Stark got this.'
What about you?

I'm rooting for the usual suspects, Jon, Tyrion, Dany, Arya, Sansa, and also Davos. Just as in the books, Davos has emerged at this point as the only adult left who we, the audience, can trust. He's got to help the kids get to where they need to be. In the books he gets sent off to find Rickon. I guess he might be sent to find Stark kids on the show too, but I think he'll march on Winterfell first.
The character I'm rooting for that really surprises me is Cersei. She is just so much more satisfying to me on the show than she was in the books. Obviously, I want things to go against her in the end, but before Dany arrives, I want to see her go batshit insane and get vengeance. Of course, I want her pet to lose a certain duel to his brother.

In the show-
Sansa and Jon to take back the North
Dany is the ruler Westeros needs at the moment in my opinion (well her dragons) and combined with jon, sam's knowledge to help fight the WW.
Also rooting for Bran, i think he's going to do something important.

I've been surprised to see myself on Team Cersei ever since the trailer that featured "I choose violence." That was pretty damn great, and everything she's gone through the last couple of seasons has made it very easy to feel sympathy for her. Cersei was pretty awful to those outside her family, but the chaos that the Faith brought to the King's Landing was much worse. It'll be very interesting to see how things play out between her and the High Sparrow. Also rooting for Bran, i think he's going to do something important. Bran's starting to feel like one of the most important characters in the season. His scene in past-Winterfell was amazing and I'm actually surprised that we may be getting Tower of Joy next week. I thought that would be a more climactic scene in Bran's season 6 story. Makes me intrigued to see what the rest of the season brings for Bran, and just when he'll 'fly.'

I think Brans climax will have something to do with the night's king. TOJ is important-ish but not that much to the current story and little to do with Bran himself. Its only in his story so that it could be featured in the season without seeming random. But yes Bran I've always thought was intrigued in knights and chivalry. It will be interesting to see what path he chooses

I've always thought Bran was an important character and since all my favorite characters are long dead...my current living favorites (on the show) are Bran and Davos.
I'm real curious as to what Davos does going forward with UnJon and no Stannis. The fact that the Child (ren?) of the Forest tells Meera that Bran has to move on and needs her help makes me wonder where does Bran go and why? What will his visions tell him and what to do they mean for him and for Westeros?
Current book faves: Davos, Jaime, Bran and Jon.

Dave can be Jon's hype man when he finally marches south to unite Westeros against the WW. I think Bran is gonna ride south too. That line from one of the first teasers "they have no idea of what's going to happen" (which I believe it's taken from the show, not just made for the teaser) makes me believe he discovers something important in his visions and needs to warn Jon and the others. I don't think he's gonna ride north towards the Lands of Always Winter on a Frodo mission to destroy the WW at the heart of their kingdom, it can't be that easy.

Stannis and Roose. I'm rooting for Davos to avenge Stannis and Shireen, and for Jon to take back Winterfell. I think I might start to support Euron in the fight for the Iron Throne, but we'll see.

What about Ramsay? He needs your support to avenge Roose and get the bastards who poisoned him. We have a pretty good idea about what happens to him this season. And we all know what Snowbowl's outcome will be. While he is still in my top 10 favourites, I see no reason to root for him instead of UnJon, unless Jon turns out to be the same guy he was before he died. I will seriously root for Rams to win Snowbowl if that's the case. I know that won't happen, but better the cruel sadistic bastard than the noble honourable bastard.

I was always rooting for Jon, but I'm much more surprised by how much the changes to Sansa make me love her and root for her to become Wardeness of the North in the show. I never really liked her in the books so the show writers have done a great job there. Definitely rooting for Davos hardcore - he's such a solid anchor and we need someone like that so badly for the northerners we love. It's going to be a really difficult journey from here on out for them to overcome everything and make the best of it and he's got just the right level headed wisdom needed. I'm sure glad he has a bigger part to play in the story afterall. I was afraid his days were really numbered in the books but now I'm thinking Davos might just make it to the end!

I was always rooting for Jon as well, but I hope his return gives him an edgier arc. He needs to gain some cynicism after his betrayal. I'd love to see Jon as a more morally grey character, making hard decisions like Stannis had to do at times. I think the 'kill the boy' theme is hinting at that, so I'm interested to see how dark Jon might become... Maybe not, like, vomiting on whores dark, but, you know, slightly darker.

Yes I really hope "Kill the boy" was a major hint and part of the overall theme for Jon Snow. I can't wait to find out soon what the show does with him!

Stannis, Greatjon Umber, Ned Stark the list goes on and on. On the show I support Davos and Sansa. If Jon becomes darker then sure, I'll support him. I'm running out of characters to like on the show! Yikes! But.. ..if Wyman makes an appearance this season then he's automatically my favorite. Hopefully the Blackfish will return this season.

Davos is my favorite currently on the show. He's always been one of my favorites, but he's winning me over the most atm.
And of course I always love Jon, Bran, Arya, and Brienne
The biggest disappointment for me is show Jaime. He's my favorite book character and I've hated the way he's been handled.
