Was that Aeron or not? It definitely looked like the same guy from season 2. No idea if it's the same guy, but I'm pretty sure that was Damphair. I think there will be no Damphair and that drowned priest will his replacement, except he won't have his own storyline

I loved Kristian Nairn in this episode. There was something really genuine and innocent in the way he said Hodor, and he managed to convey a lot of emotions just with his eyes. I like that they didn't play the hodoring for laughs this time. Not sure about the name Willas, though. That sounds like a Southerner's name to me. You know I don't really care if his name was Willas , could have been Warren or Bruce or Jimmy John.... I don't really want to know about the origin of Hodor's name. I don't really care either, I'm just pointing out something that I thought was noteworthy.

I don't know if anyone pointed this out yet, but kudos to Patrick Malahide for returning as Balon after three seasons only to die five minutes later. Jez Alexander Siddig , Patrick Malahide and even Michael McElhatton bit the biscuit a lot faster than I thought they would. It in the tradition of GRRM, 'here is a important plot character, now forget him!"

His one good chapter is the kingsmoot, but we don't need a POV on the show. I thought he was confirmed to be in this season, but I could be wrong.

Pics under the spoiler: As for whether it's Aeron, the Viewer's Guide seems to make no mention of Aeron, but the ever-charming, not-at-all-aggressive folks over at the GoT wiki seem to believe it is

I only find one cast list that I can rely on , not IMDB, over at Wikia: gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Season_6HBO maybe publishes one? I don't know where to find it. I notice that Bobby Strong is not going to be listed that way, it is Gergor Clegane. That's ok with me, I thought in the books Robert Strong was a stupid sounding name for a Westeros character.

Speaking of dead bodies , a lot of actors on the show get to play a corpse in a scene , even going from one season to the next, but only Kit gets to play a dead and a kicking body in an episode. (I don't count wights.)

(I don't count wights.) Well, that is not strictly true. The actors usually have to play dead, even for just a little bit, after they've been killed in a single episode

Definitely not as bad as watching Talisa get stabbed in her pregnant belly.

Couple notes:
Bryan Cogman has often said that his episodes often get re-written and juiced up by D&D and a lot of the scenes that fans congratulate him on writing are all D&D which he has to sheepishly admit. If they still do this for Cogman, I'm thinking that goes double for Dave Hill. So give him credit for a great episode, but also acknowledge there's probably a big helping of D&D in most of those scenes.
I also think that if they can have an episode of this quality, it bodes well for S6 in general and addresses the concern now that they don't have the books as a roadmap that they can still maintain the high bar and stay on course.
Next, in the Inside the Episode clip, D&D say that based on his reaction in the scene that Harrald Karstark was in on Ramsay's taking out Roose and that it had been planned out. So if you didn't think the Karstarks were douchebag enough before the episode, that should help you understand now.
Finally, one of my favourite little moments in the episode is when the head of the Lannister guards gives his "Thank Christ" look once Cersei decides to turn around and not have Gregor destroy them. Dude was pissing himself.

I though it was interesting that both Cersei and the Black Brothers backed down rather than fight - I thought both situations would be resolved more violently. It was a relief both times, but surely setting up for more tension later because it leaves those issues unresolved. I'm finding it hard to get a read on Cersei right now - clearly she loves Tommen, but I also think she sees him as competitor for power. And I doubt that she's forgiven him for being weak when she needed him, or for barring her from going to Myrcella's funeral without even talking to her about it.
I feel like Brienne was less than honest with Sansa about her encounter with Arya. She didn't mention that she left Arya's protector for dead, did she? And she didn't mention that the guy was the Hound. If Brienne is going to be Sansa's most trusted guardian, she's going to need to tell Sansa hard truths.

Definitely not as bad as watching Talisa get stabbed in her pregnant belly. Agree. As awful as it was what happened to Walda and the baby, not nearly as bad as what happened to Talisa and her unborn child.
