I wonder if it's an insider's running joke how much D&D are getting HBO to pay awesome actors to lie on a slab(or floating funeral boat) and pretend to be a corpse this season. This show is getting so fucking brutal, this week we had a character be born and murdered in the same episode. Funny. You know I think all tier one cast (and other wise) have done it except Stephen Dillane , tho can't see the Boltons giving him a proper funeral.

If I was cast as Jon Snow. What if you were cast as Davey Joe? As much as I hated to see Roose go, it was a very deliberate parallel with the Red Wedding scene. Both were an intimate embrace/slash surprise dagger to the chest moment. Y u do dis?

Absolutely, but at least he was in 510. We didn't see Balon for 21 episodes straight, that's something. by the way I love how shockingly underwhelming the War of the Five Kings' conclusion turned out to be: not a huge-ass battle for the crown, but a systematic murdering of all the pretenders. The only one who got to die in battle was Stannis. And that says something about his claims to the throne, i think: wasn't he misguided by his faith in the Red God, he truly would have been the rightful king (or so I like to think) Stannis would have been in the front lines against the White Walkers.Book wise I would give it a 75% chance that Stannis will die in the great battle against the Others.

Not a chance Stannis makes it to fight the WW. He's mid-series filler. Not an endgame character.
That sounded harsh. Not to mean he wasn't a good character, or even an important one, I just don't think he'll be around to fight the WW.

So, Melisandre. Has she earned y'all's forgiveness for being the one to bring Jon back? Or at least, was bringing Jon back a start to earning forgiveness?

Sorry for interrupting your speculation and shit but this episode was a dream come true:
Jon Snow is alive We saw young Ned and Benjen and Hodor and Rorick We saw Lyanna for the first time and she is like in the books and not like the fandom usually sees her Jon Snow is alive Balon is finally dead So is Roose The fucking traitors of the Night's Watch got what they deserve Jon Snow is alive Euron is a fucking egomaniac Ramsay went off the rails The show literally said that Bran won't be in the fucking cave forever Jon Snow is alive
what's not to enjoy??

As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing to forgive. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've never blamed Melisandre for Shireen. Never. That's on Stannis, Mel wouldn't have done anything if he had not allowed it.

George has said she's the most misunderstood character of the series. There won't be an easy yes or no to this question. Mel could offer up the suggestion every day to burn Shireen, but it's Stannis that has to say yes or no, and that's the difficult part for Stannis fans. Whether or not that decision feels justified in the show, and maybe ultimately the books. It's way too simple to hate Mel for that event.

By the end I'd completely forgotten about Olly! I hope that little shit freezes in those cells And maybe ripped apart by Ghost in a nice parallel to Ramsay killing a child with dogs. And then burned alive to show how Jon is listening to Melisandre like Stannis did. Oh, and I'd also like his head to be smashed against a wall This is what that little shit deserves!

I don't think I needed to forgive her whether or not she brought back Jon. In the end, Shireen was Stannis's choice. I do think Melisandre is a character who thinks she is doing the right thing and that the flames are telling her the right thing and they are, but she's misreading them as she has done with Stannis. I guess the bigger question is...if Davos finds out does he make this distinction as well? Does the goodwill he has having for her now continue? About Ramsey and Joffrey, mentioned a few pages back, I think Ramsey is the sadist that Joffrey aspires to be.

Marginalia I thought Dany lifting 500 lb dragon collars broke credulity, but Tyrion being able to pull bolts out , well that looked ok to me.
Gemma Wheland is a very fine dramatic actress.
Isaac Hempstead Wright has grown as an actor.
I like Kae Alexander as the new Leaf, hope thats not all we see of her.
I remember when Aimee Richardson was disappointed about not keeping the Myrcella role (she’s actually become an actress). She must now have the thought that Nell Tiger Free is thinking “I fucking get two lines of dialog in one season and play a dead body in the next”.
Is Michael Feast playing Damphair, maybe a cast list has him as Aeron Greyjoy? (He almost looks like the actor in that role from season 2).
At least Theon gets a horse; I thought he was going to have to walk back!
I guess (?) Sansa will meet Jon now?
I thought it was cool they didn’t translate Melisandre’s Valyrian , at first I thought they had made up some nonsense, but no Carice was speaking Valyrian , maybe David Peterson will give a translation.
Is Sam not there even next week?

Weren't we supposed to get a scene with Tommen and Pycelle (and other) in this episode? I thought the image was released for 6x02, but I guess we'll have to wait for 6x03?

Was that Aeron or not? It definitely looked like the same guy from season 2.

I loved Kristian Nairn in this episode. There was something really genuine and innocent in the way he said Hodor, and he managed to convey a lot of emotions just with his eyes. I like that they didn't play the hodoring for laughs this time. Not sure about the name Willas, though. That sounds like a Southerner's name to me.

You know I don't really care if his name was Willas , could have been Warren or Bruce or Jimmy John.... I don't really want to know about the origin of Hodor's name.
