I guess by looking at all the connections the characters have in ASOS, I can see why it came up that way. And given the what happens to Robb Stark in ASOS, I can see why he came in 5. Eddard still has a significant dot even though he's been dead for two books. Rhaegar, who was dead before the series began, even has a noticeable dot.

Not sure how Sansa or Robb are on this list over Bran, but ok...
Sansa being ahead of Daenerys is also strange to me.

Both Bran and Dany's stories are highly isolated, unlike both Sansa and Robb who are both in the thick of the Wot5K, in different ways. Hence why they're both ahead of Queen Daenerys and Bran Flakes.

I guess it depends on what they mean by "importance." If we're talking endgame I'd say it's Dany,Jon, Bran, but I guess they're factoring in everything, politics, wars, etc.

They've made a graph with all of the characters connections with each other and then used the graph to work out a series of measures which they've combined to come up with the final ranking. The paper has a break-down of where everyone ranks within each of their measures and Dany ranks terribly in number of connections and distance, which is why she's lower than she should be.

I don't even understand that map, but I want to ask why is Robb's dot so big?

Robb's dot is bigger than Arya's? Mance's dot is as big as Bran's?

I assume Robb's dot is that big because everything he did had a fucking huge effect on the realm considering, you know, he was one of the five kings in the War of Five Kings. Literally anything he did had a much bigger effect on much more people than anything Arya has done so far possibly could.

At first my head was imploding trying to figure out the logic and mathematical calculations they used but I guess it makes sense if calculations are all you're basing it on. Social media algorithms work for the internet but not for Game of Thrones. Fortunately we know the story itself is far more complicated and doesn't follow that sort of logic at all. That being said, Tyrion having the greatest social connections is awesome and I'm sure he would approve of this chart.

The connections are just the starting point But yes, as I said in the OP, this stuff is kind of bullshit. But I love it LOL. Still. I'mma quote something one of my professors once said to me (plagiarised from someone from the 1900s LOL): all models are wrong; some are useful.

Yeah, I know it's all about algorithms and calculations, but it's surprising to see Meryn fucking Trant ranking higher than, say, Olenna Tyrell and Doran Martell.

Robb gets mentioned a lot even if he's not doing anything, in book 2 he only appeared in 1 chapter but his name still came up all the fucking time. And Storm is definitely Bran's worst book plot. 2/4 of his chapters have nothing happening and other characters only mention him to learn/remember that he's supposedly dead.

It's interesting but not really accurate to the larger picture of the story. I like Sansa well enough, but she shouldn't be higher than Arya, Bran and of course Dany. I'm at work and I can't open the link but did they only go as far as ASOS?
