I saw someone say that they blew their budget on all the walkers so they had to do half the episode in black and white lol. TWD fans on the internet tend to be even more stupid with half baked theories than the Game of Thrones fans and that's saying a lot. I was also reading where some hardcore zombie / TWD fans were dissing GoT saying how it stole the idea of "walkers" from TWD and doesn't deserve to win Emmy awards but TWD does. That one actually made me burst out laughing because obviously whoever it is hasn't actually watched Game of Thrones and has no idea what it's about or how old the books are either. I don't even think TWD has ever been nominated for a Primetime Emmy. Certainly not Outstanding Drama.

I love The Walking Dead and it's obviously been one of the most popular shows on in recent years but the horror genre is what keeps it from getting nominated I guess. There really isn't a category it fits is there?

There really isn't a category it fits is there? Well GoT is fantasy genre and it broke barriers, so genre isn't a good excuse for TWD. I'm a fan too. I've invested in 5+ seasons and still enjoy the show, so I didn't mean to slight it if it came across that way.

It doesn't get nominated because it is mostly dumb fun. I really don't want to bash the show because I do enjoy the hell out of it. But, let's face it, the writing is not great and the effects are often laughable. They have managed to create some memorable characters like Daryl and Morgan and, sometimes, the writing is very good. But for every Daryl there are two Governors.

No I didn't take it as you slighting the show at all - I was commiserating with you that I enjoy the show but I confess I really don't understand how the Emmy system works or why TWD has been snubbed for so long unless it just doesn't measure up for technicality reasons. It's hard to get it to fit into the 'drama' category because of all the horror/gore of the zombies whereas yes GoT is technically a fantasy too but it's much heavier on the drama so that helped it break the barrier is my guess.

The characters and the actors playing them are fantastic and that tends to make up for the sometimes questionable storylines. I still think it's the horror/gore that gets it snubbed as too pop-culture for Emmy snobbery.

Yeah, the acting is pretty good for most of the characters. Whoever plays Maggie is probably the best of the lot, but they give her a wider range than most of the others. The writers have missed a number of opportunities to give the show more depth, lots of people HATED the farm season, but I thought the interplay between the characters and the internal and interpersonal conflicts were really well done. The prison episodes were good, too. But then there was Woodbury, which sucked goat penis. AND WHEN YOU THOUGHT WOODBURY WAS MERCIFULLY OVER HE CAME BACK. And Terminus felt really rushed.
I feel like they had a lot of awesome material and wasted many opportunities.

I was really hoping Daryl and Beth would have crazy survivor sex and then Beth dies and Daryl hooks up with Carol so a bunch of viewers would say "Gross! She's too young!" and then "Gross! She's too old!"
Daryl is a virgin, btw. It is known.

S2 was actually my favourite season. I've re-watched it more than any other TWD season and it has the saddest character death, imo (Dale).

For me it would be 2>1>4>5>3 Yeah, that's pretty much my ranking too. S3 had some amazing episodes (it started off great, and Lori's death was devastating, even though I didn't particularly like her as a character), but the Woodbury/Governor stuff was tedious (imo) and I was disappointed about the awful portrayal of Andrea, who I hear is an awesome character in the comics.

I saw someone say that they blew their budget on all the walkers so they had to do half the episode in black and white lol. I would think it's much more likely a homage to the comics. Anyway, really liked this one. I seem to be on the minority, but I liked the black and white. Didn't want it to end either, even with the longer runtime. Hyped for the rest of this season! Also, for everyone hating on the CGI, you have to admit Nicotero does an amazing job with the practical effects. The walkers always look amazing.

I was underwhelmed. Same here ... really didn't like the ping pong back and forth thing between the planning / past and the present. The start was too jarring and confusing to figure out which was which in my opinion and at least for me, it set the first 15 min or so back a ways as I tried to sort it out and decide if I was on board or not. There was nothing to grab my attention right away until the point the 'plan' became more obvious. Also, wtf is with the somewhat over exaggerated "tension" between Rick, Morgan and Michonne? Is that really necessary? We get it, things are weird - no need to put such a fine point on it and make everyone constantly giving the side-eyes. When Carter got bit in the face and was screaming like a little bitch and Rick put him down ... that did not warrant doubt and tension ... that was necessary for survival. They're over dramatizing this a bit too much for as tight as we expect the group to be by this point. Ah well, maybe I'm being overly critical. I was a lot more forgiving with my reviews of Fear The Walking Dead, but when it comes to the main show I expect a lot higher caliber directing and story and this season opener was lacking. The massive hordes of zombies were about the only cool thing. Everyone's acting seemed too stilted too. Oh and new baby Judith looks nothing like the old one, wtf... is it hard to find another baby that's blonde or something? I don't even think their eye color was the same and that's just way too distracting. I know TWD isn't always realistic with their walkers, but how exactly did that scrawny ass walker, stuck between two trees manage to grab Carter and pull him in to bite? That's almost as bad as the Ninja walker that took out Dale.
