i don't see the point of being pessimistic about it. if anyone doesn't want to be spoiled then don't watch the show. Plus the show is already spoiling things. the show is getting a lot of criticisms by fans now they might not even want to keep watching. if you thought ADWD is crappy i can't help you lol don't keep reading then. This isn't being pessimistic. This is pretty much the established trend. Thinking the book will be out before Season 6 is optimistic. That would be easy, if this weren't the most popular show on earth. I also don't believe many people will quit the show, but then I also know that many people aren't going to be happy about it. Not me though. But anyway you slice it the show completely spoiling the unpublished book is a big deal. I'm not going to keep reading.

Hibberd that lazy fuck reporting with delay Sort of gotten to be a media epidemic to present old news as new news. The short term memory of readers and reporters seems to be going! I have lost count of the number times I have seen a headline , read the article, and find it is repeating information published , sometimes a year ago! Worst example I have seen in recent times is an article about the Van Allen Belt claiming it was just discovered, the marching morons!

Thanks, I thought I was going crazy when I saw this being reported everywhere yesterday. I could have sworn he said this quite a while ago and I thought I had just assumed it. I have enough reasons to think that I'm losing my long term memory, I don't need anything more contributing to that belief.

He said this a while ago. And he is not writing an episode for this season (5) as well, correct? I do recall his publisher saying not to expect Winds this year (2015) and they were not sure about next year (2016). I know we all are anxious for the next book, but I don't think GRRM has given up on the series. I am sure he has more obligations now due to the show and increased fame and not writing a script for season 6 and I thought this season too is him trying to focus on working on the book.

Trying to get TWoW out before S6 airs is the only mission Martin has left at this point. That's a deadline he can work towards because there is no hope that ADoS beats the end of the show. So you can see his sense of urgency in trying to meet this deadline.
It's a little funny because it's so late in the game for him to finally realize that he needed to prioritize this. There were 4 years prior to this that he more or less wasted with his head in the sand regarding this deadline.
If the show didn't exist, guaranteed that TWoW wouldn't even be half done at this point.

I think hes began to realise just how far behind hes getting. He probably though at the start of S1, he could get book 5 out relax and bask in the warm reception the show recieved. Enjoy the publicity, which he has done, and deservedly too. Then get cracking on with the writing in between. Of course theres a point where procrastination takes over. Which I can only imagine happened. If it takes George one year, or five years (hope not) to release the next book, so long as the content is solid I wont be too upset.

No one's going to stop watching the show, not even the drama queens who /wrist and claim they are never watching again. They are secretly watching anyways. I am glad George finally decided to get off the fame train and finish writing - it's definitely been distracting him and I know he loves the attention but he can't get any good work done when everyone's crawling up his shit for interviews, public appearances and writing show episodes too. One thing he really loves is hanging out with actresses from the show. Whether it's Sibel or it's Natalia Tena or Maisie or Sophie, he LOVES it. Makes him feel young, I guess. Remember the video of him spending an evening with Sibel, and there's an awkward scene of him showing her his action figure collection as she feigned interest? It was like every middle school nerd's dream come true.

One important thing of note to remember here guys: It took George six years to release ADWD after AFFC ... remember that? That was before the show series started - so it's hardly fair to blame the show and recent events entirely for his delay - reminding myself of this as well since I have oft criticized his TV fame and busy media schedule. Fact is, he took a long time even when there wasn't a show in the way.
He did pretty good with the first three books, 2 years apart each. It's going on 5 years now since ADWD so by the time he releases it, still better than the way between the last two!
My hope is that he's actually been working on both books simultaneously because he's said before he likes to work on one character at a time over many chapters so it's reasonable to think he's been covering material from both books which might enable him to finish the next one reasonably quicker than he has the last couple but still not in time for season 7 without a miracle.

Im going to keep watching regardless. so this doesn't bother me. Then why do you care about the release of the books?

The speculation amuses me. And I like being proven right.

And I like being proven right. That's kind of arrogant of you to say, isn't it? Still, I think your guesses are right unfortunately. I don't know what happened to Martin but he has been seriously procrastinating for a long time now. I mean, the universe he created is a piece of art and his books are just mindblowing to read. But that does not explain, in my opinion, a 5 years gap between books, at all. He managed to write aSoS (his most incredible one so far) in only two years... Now it has been what, 15 years since that, and we only got two more. It depresses me to think that. And as much as I like the show, I think no adaptation should spoil the original material. This might be the first time in history that happens. This has nothing to do with the show being good or bad, it is just that every single person will read his final book with an at least vague idea of what will happen. So basically he created everything from this amazing world he writes about, but won't be the one to close the story. It sucks a lot. But that is more his fault than the show's. He had 7 years to publish two books, absolutely doable IMO. Oh yeah, "show and books are different things", come on, as much as they claim this, the show is/has been based on the books, there is no way some things of seasons 6 and 7 won't be from George's plans, and spoil them to us. No way. I will keep watching it, I think, but this was a terrible lack of planning from Martin, terrible.

It is undoubtedly arrogant. But fuck it, I'm still pretty damn sure I'm right.

If the show didn't exist, guaranteed that TWoW wouldn't even be half done at this point. He can still come off like a hero by finishing TWOW before season 6 and then writing a couple of episodes over the split 7th season, including the finale. Then he can take 5 years to bang out ADOS.
