i took a point off for no muppet tully in the oath-swearing throne room scene, but other than that, it was pretty good.

Mostly liked it. Could have done without the prophecy but only cause it makes me think of how lackluster the long night was. Works fine without it. The birth scene cut with the criston cole fight was really well done I thought. Can’t wait to see how all the Criston/Rhaenrya stuff plays out

Ok, I know I said I wasn't interested, but I saw people praising it so I watched the episode and enjoyed it. So far the story, characters and dialogue work, so hopefully they will keep up the good work. Matt Smith was the highlight of the episode, it's not easy to play a likeable asshole but he does it very well.
I did find the fight choreography a bit clumsy, but that's it.
You can also tell this show has a bigger budget than GOT had in season 1. The tournament set up was beautiful and made the one in GOT look like like a bunch of sticks glued together (not a dig, they had to work with what the resources they had).

I thought it was good. It hasn't blown me away or rekindled my love for the series quite yet, but a very solid opener and I'm definitely hooked enough to keep watching. I've never been the biggest Targaryen fan, so the prospect of a TV series mainly revolving around them was never super appealing to me, but so far, I'm digging it. Daemon and Rhaenyra especially seem like very interesting characters I'm excited to see more of. I also wonder how close they gonna stay to the history established in the books. I didn't read Fire and Blood, but I'm vaguely familiar with the events of the dance from reading up on it years ago when I was still obsessed with everything ASOIAF. I think I remember some really dark stuff. I've gotta say though, I am extremely disappointed with the absence of an intro sequence. I get that GoT set a pretty high bar as far as intros go, so their solution was not having one at all?

Not much to add, I also enjoyed it!
Solid cast all round - I especially thought Paddy Considine and Matt Smith were great.

I saw an article saying the intro will be on next week's episode I really half expected to hear the Thrones theme again. I liked it too. My cold, dead heart did beat a little bit seeing the heart tree in King's Landing. That was sweet. I like the actors so far. I'm just curious how long each season is going to be in the timeline considering all the fuckery these Targs eventually get in to? Like, how long do they hold off THE dance of the dragons?

Really enjoyed the opener.
The scene with Aemma and the cesarean genuinely made me cringe, in a good way. Its been a while since that's happened so I can only praise that.
I loved seeing all the banners during the Tourney, and all the Knights and riders from various houses. Baratheons, Tullys (even though they never used GRRM's amazing CANON Tully names), Starks and even a Bolton. I always love touches like that.
There's also something really charming and funny to me about the king having built a giant model of old Valyria. Kind of reminds me of those people who build intricate model railways.
The casting is great, but I'm really fond of Matt Smith as Daemon. I think he really suits the character, and definitely lives up to the reputation Daemon had.

Not gonna lie, if we don't meet Lord Grover or Lord Elmo before this thing is over, I'd be severely disappointed.

Not gonna lie, if we don't meet Lord Grover or Lord Elmo before this thing is over, I'd be severely disappointed. I'm sure we'll get them. But not until the war really gets started. NGL, a lot of people are gonna be real depressed once the dragons start dying...

GRRM is dropping hints about the books and confirming his ending will be different from GOT via HotD just in case they don't make any more TV shows after this one

GRRM needs to shut up and write. I really like Olivia Cooke so I'm excited to see her older Allicent.

GRRM needs to shut up and write. I really like Olivia Cooke so I'm excited to see her older Allicent. as someone who doesn't believe he'll ever finish the series (i still hold eternal hope for twow, but that's not even the final book and do we really believe he can even do it in 7 books?), i'm fine with him concentrating more on the tv side. he left got to work on winds, and that still wasn't enough time for him, while the show's quality decreased in his absence. i wonder how much different things might have been there if he was more involved in s5-8, but anyways ..... that's gonna be something this show will have in common with vikings. the funny image of a young actress like olivia cooke playing a mother of grown sons, the eldest with kids of his own.

I just wanna see the battle above the God's Eye. If the show can deliver on that, it'll all be good with me.

I get that GoT set a pretty high bar as far as intros go, so their solution was not having one at all? I've never been a great Targaryen fan except the couple of times Dany was doing her badass scenes. But I thought Ep 1 was pretty good. At first watch, I thought it was a bit flat, but I liked it better after that. The tourney scene made me think of the Roman Colosseum. I liked Ep 2 better and have hopes that the series will get better as it progresses. I didn't read Fire and Blood but have been trying to read about Viserys' era in A World of Ice and Fire, which is saying something because my eyes just sort of get glazed over with boredom reading all the history. I'm OK as long as I don't try to ready too much ahead or too much at a time. Love Matt Smith's Daemon, also Rhaenyra. Aside from that, I'd rate Corlys and Rhaenys, love Corlys bursting into the Council Meeting. Not fond of the young Alicent at all but there's a terrific video of Cooke as the older Allicent on Twitter, and that looks fantastic.
