It is hard in that crypt to tell them apart. Outside is easier.

The one Tyrion touched first was Rhaegal. Yep I did several re-watches of the scene (of course, I'm obsessed!) and it was Rhaegal he unchained first and Viserion who bent his neck down and shook the collar like "ME NEXT!" Doesn't really mean anything significant - he had obvious rapport with both of them. They like him!

Can we just stop for a moment to appreciate how amazing that scene is...the first person in...what, hundreds of years, ever to just flat have a convo with dragons... So, are we to presume that dragons understand the common tongue from having been around it or what? We know Tyrion's Valyrian kind of sucks, but that didn't seem to prevent communication.

Tyrion read the book about dragons quite a few times if I recall from the books - it was one of his favorites. It outlined all the details of how the dragons were cared for and raised, etc. He's really the best person in the whole world to be by Dany's side now because he's probably one of the few who can actually tell her wtf she's doing wrong with her children. Of course, no parent likes being given parenting advice so we'll have to see if she gets haughty about it. As for understanding him - yeah they're intelligent enough to understand the common tongue. They're not like dogs who just seem to understand tone and a few specific words they associate with things. They're supposedly fully sentient beings which is how Drogon knows what Daenerys wants him to do and how to find her. I doubt anyone else has ever just tried to 'talk' to them that way so I agree, it was a huge moment of revelation. They were probably thinking "Damn it's about time someone fucking talked to us and made some fucking sense!" They love him now for sure.

First person to show them respect that wasn't mothering or fear. Yep, I'd say they think he's pretty great.

I think it's quite clear that Dany treats her dragons as her pets/babies, while Tyrion treated them like people.

It's like when they say "a horse can tell when you're scared" I think the dragons sense he didn't mean harm

I think it's quite clear that Dany treats her dragons as her pets/babies, while Tyrion treated them like people. The show's favoritism of Tyrion never ceases to amaze me. Of course Tyrion undestands the dragons better than their Mother. Of course the sex slave offers herself to him for free, and he turns her down. Of course Shae shot first! Of course he never intended to consumate the marriage to Sansa. Bleurgh. That said, I love Book Tyrion, despite all. he's my favourite Lannister, though Cersei sometimes gives him a run for the money, though in her case it's more of the love to hate her kind of love. OTOH I'm one of the few people in the world who loathe Goldenhand the Just. I can't but LOL at that 'redemption' arch. You have not changed, Flinger of Children, you're just pissed because Cersei gave you horns and you're trying to find a new way to feel good about yourself now when you're a cripple and a cuckold. He congratulates himself on "not taking up the arms against the Tullys" while threatening to fling Edmure's new born child against the castle walls if Blackfish doesn't give up. What an honorable oathkeeper, my old and saggy arse. His chapters are still fun to read, tho. In the show, Cersei is the best of them by far; she's both amusing to watch and mostly reasonable and good.

They whitewashed show Cersei almost as much as Tyrion though. She didn't have Roberts bastards killed, she didn't order Tyrion's death on the BW, no Kettleblacks, no Blue Bard, etc. I think they're both still great characters, they're just a little different than their book counterparts. I actually kinda like that they made Cersei more sympathetic tbh. And no, she's not different enough to warrant calling her fucking Carol.

That is true (hence "mostly reasonable and good"), but at least she had Lady killed and the War of the 5 Kings is essentially her fault. Tyrion is just flawless; not only his crimes are absent, but he's often shown to be morally upstanding like in the case of the slave girl he turned down. Not even he doesn't rape her, he's too love with the memory of Shae to have sex with any woman so soon. In the books he's raping the poor beaten down woman. It's vomit-inducing.

Yeah, but even though she didn't do any of that Cersei is still a huge bitch and the fans still hate her, whereas Tyrion is a complete saint and a fan favorite. They took away everything that was interesting about him and all he is now is this witty genius. It has made him somewhat unlikeable to me. At least Cersei is still interesting despite the changes and I'm still invested in her character. Tyrion could drop dead in the next episode and I wouldn't care.
