I've never put much stock in the theories about Tyrion being a dragon rider, but after seeing his rapport with the dragons, I'm warming up to the idea. I did wonder why he didn't bring Missandei to ease the introduction to the dragons, but maybe it is best if he doesn't involve Missandei in his hairbrained schemes. Tyrion getting close to the dragons could become a point of tension once Dany returns, though. I bet she'll feel territorial with her babies.
I thought that Theon's decision to go to the Iron Islands, while not particularly rational, was sold pretty well. I totally believe that Theon would be strongly averse to facing Jon - both because Jon is an embodiment of male Starkishness that Theon betrayed and because Theon used to look down on Jon and can't really deal with their new relative status.
I thought it was interesting that Melissandre's spell was very different from Thoros'.
My husband really liked young Hodor.
Ramsay killing Bolton at that moment made sense, but I was disappointed that Bolton didn't anticipate it. Of course in the books it seems like Bolton should have killed Ramsay a long time ago too, because Ramsay is such a threat to his rule and to him personally. Poor Walda.

Jon opening his eyes at the end of this episode mirrors Bran opening his at the end of 1x02 That's what I've been saying for like a month now If you want people to give you credit for believing in a theory you have to a) name yourself after it, b) talk about it incessantly, to the exclusion of most other topics, or c) make a video about it. Get with it!

Assorted thoughts:
Tyrion gets quote of the day: "That's what I do. I drink, and I know things."
I was fully expecting Ramsay to kill Roose in that scene. And I knew Walda and Baby would be next. I'm just grateful we were spared the graphic details of that scene. *queasy*
Wun Wun saves the day! I was sort of hoping Aliser would be killed in that scene, but now I'm glad he's still alive. I can't wait to see his reaction to Jon's resurrection. Heh-heh. And I must say, Davos is fast becoming one of my favorite characters.
If I enjoyed the scenes of mostly naked dead Jon, does that make me a necrophiliac?
I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get a Hound mention. A man? He wasn't just any man, Brienne! He was the bloody Hound!
I'm sort of meh about the Iron Islands storyline, but I do like Yara and I'm looking forward to her reunion with Theon.
The Lyanna flashback was a nice teaser. Looking forward to more of that.
I'm also looking forward to Arya kicking the waif's ass.

Now Tywin made Roose wardern of the north that would still be on the books, can't see how Ramsay can take on that title.

As a "mama" of beasts I've wondered about this. Will it be obvious to her that the dragons should bond with others or will she not like that?

She wasn't upset about them liking Brown Ben in the books.

So we got the Lyanna flashback and the ToJ sequence is next or at least a big sword dust up ... and then what? Have no clue how that story plays out ... then like Maggie-the-frog that story is gone for good?

Like I said in the other thread Jon has to kill him and kill him hard. I want him to suffer. More than I wanted Joffrey to suffer and I hated Joffrey. Ramsay has definitely outdone Joffrey as a monster, by far. That he would do that to Walda and her newborn was horrific. I know he can't leave any 'loose ends' (true heir) after taking out his own father but damn, that was brutal. Both characters are/were sadists, but Joffrey was an idiot and a coward. Ramsay is smarter and he's not afraid to fight, which makes him truly frightening. He makes my flesh crawl. Which I guess is a testament to Iwan's acting ability. i can't wait to see Jon mop the floor with Ramsay on the battlefield.

On to my rewatch. And just a little detail of some note; young Hodor already has a scar on his forehead like adult Hodor. So he's not simple because of head-trauma. It must be something else...

The only thing I wasn't huge on in this otherwise great episode was the lack of appropriate gravitas given to Roose's death. I know the Boltons have never been given loads of screentime unless there's a more central character with them, but I feel like they could have had a wonderful long setup to that moment with the two of them arguing. It felt so rushed, much like last week's similar assassination, seems like a missed opportunity. Also Roose was great, sad to see him go.

I think part of the reason it felt so rushed was that it came near the beginning of the episode. And then we just go right on. I wonder if book readers and more serious fans are the only ones who care about Roose as a major player and seat of power.

I lol'd so hard at that entire scene. The peasant bullshitting and the head smash. Also I noticed Sophie's name was by itself in the credits, she's not grouped with anyone else anymore. Was it like that last week? That was the first I noticed it.
