Shadow of Mordor 2 Trailer: The first game was pretty neat in terms of gameplay ... but Tolkien would spin in his grave if he knew how they're screwing with his masterpiece and established LotR lore. So these two doofuses made a second One Ring, just like that. Interesting. Isn't this basically a different universe though? I mean like it's not canon with the books or movies or anything, it's basically just taking the setting and some of the lore with a different spin on it.

hey DaveyJoe , how's your Dark Souls 2 playthrough going? Not bad, I ended up beating the first boss. I can understand why experienced players feel frustrated with a new Dark Souls game. It definitely takes getting used to the new physics. One thing I hated was the new jumping control scheme, you have to use the analog stick, but when I pushed the stick in it kept moving the direction my character was facing so I jumped off of many cliffs. Another thing that frustrated me is that they didn't give you a shield until almost the end of the first zone. When I play a new souls game I usually rely heavily on blocking so I can learn the enemy's attack patterns. So I guess the new game has a more frenetic pace to combat that encourages you to roll and dodge more instead of just walking around with your shield up. I eventually got used to it, and then when I got a shield I kept forgetting to use it. The first boss fight was very easy, but that's not unusual, I struggled a lot more getting to the boss. But yeah, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to playing more this weekend.

I'm also playing Dark Souls 1 a lot so I can finish out all the trophies. Just beat the Painted World on my Cleric last night, that's one of my favorite zones, so cool.

Ah yes you're right: That seems kinda weird that it's set not only in the universe but actually between the films. It doesn't really tie in with them in any way - which I suppose is good since it's able to stand on its own. I feel a little ashamed of myself for not remembering what happened in the first game. I remember really loving the gameplay - especially the combat system and taking control of all the orcs - but the plot has completely removed itself from my memory Something about an elf ghost and a man and mind control?

In Bloodborne you don't have a shield at all, you only have a pistol which you can use to stun enemies for a second if you shoot them at the right moment. There is no blocking, you have to rely on your reflexes and dodge enemy attacks. I kind of like this about Bloodborne, it makes the gameplay feel more dynamic. By the way, I don't know if you've noticed, but in Dark Souls 2, enemies don't infinitely respawn anymore. If you kill an enemy ten times, they won't come back the next time you rest at a Bonfire, so it's possible to clear out an area completely. I like this change, it makes backtracking less frustrating if you die over and over an a boss.

I only remember bits and pieces of the story as well. The guy you play as was like a ranger from Gondor whose family was killed by the Hand of Sauron, and the elven dude was the one who was originally tricked by Sauron into forging the Rings of Power (except the One Ring, of course). I think Gollum makes an apperance at some point. The story was underwhelming, but I loved the gameplay. The nemesis system was a stroke of genius.

Yeah, at first I was frustrated because I'm so used to playing tanky characters in the first two games. I know that Bloodborne does away with them, so I guess Dark Souls 2 is starting the transition to a more fluid style of game play. I started to get used to it and appreciate it, honestly it could be great if I adjust my play style because I enjoy using greatswords in DS1. I did not realize the enemies eventually stop respawning, I guess that means I didn't die too much. I know what you mean, I didn't mind dying to tough bosses, but it was frustrating running back to them and clearing out the mobs on the way. I always had trouble with Seath and I hated having to fight those giant clam monsters over and over again. Demon's Souls was much better about creating shortcuts when you reach a boss so you didn't have to fight the same mobs over and over again. I kind of just want to play DS1 and 2 all weekend.

Though to be fair, Bloodborne is designed to be played much more aggressively and without a shield. Meaning that the bosses are easier to stagger if you keep attacking them, which is not really the case in Dark Souls. Also you don't dodge roll anymore, you do back or side steps, which is much faster and feels more fluid than rolling. God, you'd love Bloodborne. It's not only the gameplay that's great, the entire game is basically a gothic horror story brought to life. The atmosphere is ... amazing.

Have you guys played Ultimate Chicken Horse? It's a multiplayer party game where you create your own little jump and run levels. I just played it with Daniel for a bit and it was fucking hilarious, I'd imagine it would be even better if you played it with a bunch of people.

I'm thinking of getting a new PC. Had this one for about 6 years, minus graphics card updates. Hype.

@witchy , I made a Kingdom Hearts timeline ... If you're interested in the story, you have to play them all, unfortunately. If you're not, I would recommend playing KH2 and Birth by Sleep, because they're the best by far! Or you could just continue playing Dream Drop Distance and enjoy the dumb, convoluted story and cheesy dialogue.

I just defeated two invaders with my cleric in Anor Londo. Can't believe I beat them both.

Playing Dark Souls, the game is hard enough but PVP is crazy. There's nothing more satisfying than defeating somebody who came to fuck your world up.
