[Scene Spoilers] S6 - Set Location Filming Info & Photos

Great stuff, thanks for posting more set filming pics for us morgantayler - keep 'em coming as you find them! I read someone's comment yesterday about the green screens seeming to be more of a blocking device than a special effects set.





To me, it looks like they're going to do a trick I've seen done in big crowd scenes (TWD uses this too) when they want to block out active/live or inappropriate bits of a city scene for the set. The greenscreens make it easy for them to edit in bits and pieces of their fabricated in-house set props over top of what's already there in real life. They did this for dubbing in Winterfell in that vast NI landscape too.

In this case it looks like they're going to edit in street side scenery at the base of the steps, using a VFX technique with "Crowd Sims" (computer animated simulated people) ... which is a really cool computer trick used quite a bit nowadays in films where they want massive armies of people. It was done with the undead wights in Hardhome as well.

It's a great bit of graphics wizardry. I was just reading how they did it with Mad Max Fury Road too. If you're curious you should look up some behind the scenes VFX documentaries about the filming with computer techniques. It's much like making video games.

If you can translate it, you should post it over in the speculation thread for others to try and figure out. This thread is for set location and filming photos - leaks that we have pictures of and new areas of the world the show is using for beautiful sets.

Kit being sighted at Belfast zillion times already + GRRM spilling the beans years ago were the confirmation.

No worries! I would love to see it translated better than Google does and in it's entirety without subscribing to the site. I can't read German so it wouldn't do me any good to get spammed with their articles LOL. If there's juicy info in there about Jon Snow, Speculation department would love to hear the gossip!

While hilarious, it's also a bit of ominous foreshadowing for the future I think.

LOL sorry, I'm being the stereotypical stupid American, I can't tell!  I'll confess I only looked at it briefly to the point it said you had to subscribe to their site in order to read the whole thing and then closed the browser tab so I didn't give it a very fair inspection other than to laugh at how odd Kit looks without a beard and clean shaven.

Definitely a lot of greenscreen blocking and editing going on there! 500 extras for a 'crowd' seems like a lot to us, but in terms of the size of the crowd they seem to be wanting for this scene (thousands), it's not a lot when you space everyone out along these steps which are massive! 

My guess is they'll have the live extras in a few rows deep and everyone else behind them will be crowd sims edited in with computer wizardry. 

Can't WAIT to see this scene!!
