So what are y'all doing to keep yourselves entertained in the evening? (Non sexually I mean, ahem!) I'm so bored this week! I'm broke, can't buy any expensive games or movies. I'm busy during the day but in the evenings I can't find anything I want to watch, read or play. Any ideas? Have any of you watched the "Under the Dome" series on Amazon? I was thinking about it, but I'm so bored, I'm apathetic about it. Any good books you can recommend (cheap paperback!)? I am a sci-fi/fantasy/dystopian type fan for the most part. What about movies that have just come out on Amazon or Google Play? I don't have Netflix anymore. I binge watched Orphan Black ... man that was great and kept me entertained for awhile. I'm watching torrented versions of the BBC "Humans" (because we don't get it on AMC at the same time for some reason) but it's meh... not bad not amazing. Ideas?

I am working and drinking, and trying to sleep whenever possible. When I run out of money and get bored, I work out. They keep making these damn Magic Mike movies and raising the bar for us poor men. As I get older, I like the summer less and less. My ancestors were all Irish, I have fair skin and I just can't handle hot, sunny weather. I get a sunburn when I go out to check the mail. I like summer storms and wish they happened more often.
I was going to give some entertainment suggestions but I'm on my 5th IPA and now I'm feeling all existential. Maybe we should all read some Albert Camus this summer.

Haha I could do some philosophy/existentialism - if I'm high. I don't have my favorite herbal either. I don't drink anymore other than some wine once in awhile with the right meal to pair it with and that hasn't been often at all. I don't work out anymore especially at night. I swim laps in the mornings for my exercise. I live in Texas so I totally get you on the fair-skinned sunburned the second you step outside. I'm white as can be too!

One of the worst parts of aging is how much harder it becomes to score your favorite drugs. You take for granted how easy it is to find reefer in high school. Obama needs to hurry up and make that shit accessible to all. I swear next time I want to get high it'll be like this:

Man I wish I was bored. I have only 4 days off left and 3 books, 50 Conan episodes and about a hundred movies to choose from My problem is, I *have* things I could watch or read, but I get into a weird apathetic funk sometimes and am not motivated to pick any of it up. My boredom outweighs my energy to start a new story LOL. I have games I bought months ago and never played. I have books that are good ones by review but gathering dust because I'm "not in the mood for that kind of story" at the moment. I'm not as bored this week as last week, I got over it! When you get older and your social life isn't as hot and happening, and you're not in college or under other stress ... the drudgery of day to day going to work and routine can have the opposite effect as someone who is too busy! Next week is going to be super busy and my little one starts school in a couple weeks so we have a lot to do! It's mostly late at night when my insomnia kicks in. I've started some writing again, that always helps fill the gap and make me sleepy!

I've fallen out of boredom and into dysfunction. My summer course finished more than a month ago and I don't have fuck-all planned until my next proper courses start up in September. And I never got a summer job. On top of that I've become very antisocial of late and I have a ridiculous schedule (I don't even want to disclose it it's so embarrassingly fucked)...so I'm in no position to give advice on how to climb out of a summertime rut...but I can maybe offer coping methods. Sleeping more is a good one. It doesn't make me any more functional to sleep a lot, of course, but I like having dreams at least. I can guarantee that I have dreams by setting my alarm to go off way before I want to get up and then setting it forward again and again interrupting my sleeping-in and breaking up my sleep and somehow, through by doing so, guaranteeing that I have a ton of dreams. They're something of an escape from a summertime rut at least. Then there's rewatching things. Movies and shows you've loved. If you don't own them, well the internet has a ton of great sites with TV and movies for free on them. I purposefully put off rewatching great movies in particular, sometimes for years, so that when I do it'll be all the more rewarding. If you save some of those for a summer it can make for a great payoff. There's also reading and re-reading. I'm not much of a reader these days myself, of course. I have to read so much as a student that I don't really get the same pleasure out of it that I did before starting university. It's like singers who don't like to sing when they're not performing and say, "it's like work to me". I've soured myself to something I used to find so rewarding just because of the jumping-through-hoops-bullshit of post-secondary education. Hurray. But reading and re-reading is made all the easier by the internet. If you look up a book's title on google and then follow it up with "PDF", quite often you can find one in a second for free in its entirity. Which saves wasting time looking for the book through legal means (libraries, bookstores, EBooks etc.). That often works. I read all of ASOIAF online. Didn't spend a dime. Then there's booze. Booze is always a way to make time doing nothing into lovely time.

i'm not sure what tv shows you've watched but try outlander, orange is the new black, chuck, banshee, true detective
outlander is also a book series that people seem obsessed with so it might be good!
I think maybe set a project for yourself in your house and try and get it done by the end of summer, like re-decorating a room, a creative project or building a model etc.

I wanted to suggest some activities outside, but I remembered not everyone lives in a mostly cold shithole like the middle of Germany. Temperatures here are okay for summer, I cherish every day over 70 degrees by slathering myself in sunscreen and re-reading my favourite books (a lot of youth novels bc I'm currently at my parents house) I also sorted out a bunch of clothes for donation and printed lots of phone pictures from my family for my grandma. Re-decorating a room sounds like fun idea and I take every excuse to go to Ikea.

@konradsmith - I'm mostly over my mid July boredom and have moved on to some new movies and books. I also started a new game so I've got digital entertainment lined up. I don't drink though (occasionally a glass of wine with dinner) so booze isn't really a great option haha. I'm also listening to ASOIAF podcasts while working and that's been a huge help getting me through boring hours of data that makes me sleepy and then I don't want to do anything after that. @igrewupinkl - I was a huge Outlander fan way before I ever read Game of Thrones (the first Outlander was out in 1991). I followed the series for awhile and then lost interest in it. I tried to watch a few of the show episodes and while I like the actors they cast, I just couldn't really hook into it very well. Didn't stay with it either. As for redecorating - bleh! We have a tiny apartment. Redecorating a bookshelf is about all I have room for haha. @lauryacarax - yeah we live in the heart of Texas (Austin) and this time of year the average outdoor temp is about 95 degrees fahrenheit (That's somewhere around 35 celsius for y'all euros) ... it's nuts! I hate going outside here unless it's super early in the morning. Even at 8pm after the sun's gone down it's super hot. This year has been much more mild than usual but still quite hot. We DO go out - we ride the public transit everywhere, we live near UT and downtown so we're urban outdoorsy types. Our most vigorous outdoor activity is a daily swim a the pool a block away haha. My little guy (he's 5) is a mad fish and loves the water so it's a great way to wear him out for bedtime. It's AFTER he goes to bed I tend to get bored, but I'm doing better this week - lots to do! Wrapped up the season finale of Humans last night. If y'all like sci-fi / AI stuff that's a good one.

We're lucky to have a pool in our tiny village and there are plenty water reservoires suitable for swimming not far away. I do like hot temperatures, but I understand that it is not for everyone (And I'm a student, so I can move all my duties to cooler hours and of course I have no university at the moment, ahem.)

There's no time for boredom in the military! Oh, I miss the feeling of being bored. Glad to see you checking in! The time will FLY by because you're so busy - that's a good thing! I can't believe how fast my time in the military went. I never had time to be bored either. Sleep when you can!
