Yes, the book version of Littlefinger I actually like and admire. He seems like a good ruler, even if he started the whole war and is onto nasty shit. But in the show he is just IMO creepy weird-voiced guy, who is a "gambler."
Not that he wasn't in the books though. Claiming that the dagger was Tyrion's could've backfired pretty easily.

Ser Davos Seaworth would have made a damn fine king. He's a little more than a 'minor' character but not one that could have ever had a shot at the throne so I think he counts, right?

I was going to nominate Davos, but then I started thinking that he should have ditched Stannis long ago and I started to question his basic judgement. Loyalty is important, but probably not the top thing you want in a king. A king has to fire incompetents and abandon treaties that aren't working for his country anymore. So I think Davos is better in a support role where his loyalty isn't a liability. But I nominated Littlefinger, whose judgement is clearly far iffier than Davos'. Davos should be on the list, I'll agree with that. The list is just unpromising. I have to imagine that in season 6 / book 6, the Tyrells give up on the Lannister alliance entirely and try to pivot to a new alliance. That will be interesting to watch.

Davos. He might not by a minor character, but he has no claim to the throne, so he sort of counts?
Doran - Good leader, Areo would be a great captain of the Kingsguard.

I still think that Littlefinger would be a good king, if Littlefinger had an heir that he loved. Littlefinger is so very competent. And Littlefinger is doing a good job of managing the Vale so far - he's a lot less destructive when he's on top.

He would be a good king if he had a heir he loved that he wouldn't sell to the highest bidder to gain an alliance, if he had the interest of the kingdom and his people at heart and not look out for no 1, and if he were not so murderously destructive! That is, if he were not so Petyr Baelish-ish. That being said, I think that book!Petyr should fall among the last characters. And to Sansa's machinations. Poetic justice and all that.

Littlefinger is the last one I would want on the throne - book and show.

Littlefinger would be a terrible king IMO, he thrives on chaos and, as Varys said, he would see the country burn if he could be king of the ashes.
