Emilia's nomination made no sense. She wasn't even in the top 5 of this season's performers.. Well, neither was Peter, but...

Even though I believe the show mostly has excellent acting, it's probably most appreciated in the industry for its production values and plot twists. At the end of the day the Emmy people probably figure they'd better throw GoT a couple of bones in the acting categories and go with the super dwarf and dragon lady they still remember from the first season.

Maybe he wouldn't be in an overall top 5, but what about male actors only? Can you name 5 male actors from the main cast that were better than him in season 5? I'm serious, because I can't.

My female top 5 would probably be something like Lena, Maisie, Sophie, Carice and Natalie.

Wouldn't Pryce be considered a supporting actor as well?

I am going to speak on Sean Bean and say something kind of controversial. He was WAY better than Dinklage in season 1. However, season 1 was the year that HBO figured out after Sean and Lena were not nominated in leading actor categories that the GoT cast really only gets enough screen time to compete fairly in supporting actor categories. If Sean was submitted in supporting actor, Sean should have been nominated and would have won. And Michelle was a snub, no matter how you have to submit for consideration...besides her work in Rains, her confession to Talisa about Jon Snow was so well done as was her conversation with the Blackfish about Bran and Rickon. Much better than anything Emilia did that season for sure. I don't get what the Emmys see in Emilia, other than she has cool scenes, to make her a two time nominee. You can't tell me that her work in season 5 was better than that of Lorraine Touissant, from Orange is the New Black for season 2 (who was not nominated). And she certainly was not better than Lena, who rightfully deserved her nomination and would deserve a win. I would have rather seen Kit get a nod over Peter, that's how little Tyrion had to do this season, but the standout male performers who should have been nominated for this show's season are Stephen Dillane, Alfie Allen, and Iain Glen. And if the Emmys felt that they HAD to nominate a second supporting actress from GoT, Sophie was much more deserving than Emilia. Pedro Pascal was also a snub. Besides the Mountain & the Viper, which was a so-so episode for me but Pascal was absolutely terrific in it, Pascal's first episode was one of the best introductions to a character I've seen since Tywin was introduced skinning a deer. Charles Dance is another actor from this show who should have at least had a nomination as well.

Why should they acknowledge Dillane, when they haven't even acknowledged these guys who were far more deserving of a nod (IMO)? I am going to speak on Sean Bean and say something kind of controversial. He was WAY better than Dinklage in season 1. This is very true. The only seasons Dinklage deserved a nomination for IMO were s2 and s4. I'd rank Bean and Addy above him for s1, NCW way above in s3 and of course Alfie, Dillane, Kit and Glen above him for s5.

I must disagree with you guys. As great as Bean was, Dinklage's scene about Tysha....wow.

His "confessions" to Lysa, his interactions with Bronn and the Hill Tribesmen and his scenes at Winterfell (especially that one with Theon) were also nothing short of excellent. Still, I think season 2 is where he stood out the most.

Dinklages best seasons were 2 and 4. Peter is a great actor though, those are just the two series where he had the best material to work with. He had great scenes in 3 as well, but not as good as the trial or Blackwater. The best consistent actors IMO were Michelle Fairley and Richard Madden, Stephen Dillane and Liam Cunningham and Carice Van Houten, Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance, Kit Harrington and Kristofer Hivju. Just saying, the scenes where those people were working with each other are golden. Each group had a great chemistry between them.

I think Dinklage and Heady are both so good, we tend to take them for granted. The same goes for Ian Glenn, and the same went for Bean, Fairly, and Addy. They make scenes feel full the way some three-piece bands can feel huge.
I can only speak for myself, of course, but I too think Stephen Dillane deserved award attention. I didn't like book Stannis at all. I found him single-minded and humorless to the point of being irritating. Not so show Stannis. Dillane made him real for me, a believably cold but strong character. And I came to like him enough that his death was emotional for me. I wasn't affected like real Stannis fans, but I was affected. I would give him all of the awards for the incredibly subtle looks on his face when 1) Shireen burned and 2) he realized he was fucked and he pulled out his sword anyway.
