Can someone please tell me if he is dead or alive so I could specify and focus my rage in the recap I'm currently writing? Gwendoline Christie has said in a couple of interviews that Brienne killed Stannis. And the character bio on HBO says he is dead It also says that Jon was murdered so it can be a lie, but I honestly doubt it. Jon was murdered. Doesn't mean he can't be reaurrected. They're both officially dead.

At the beginning of the season, I never would've guessed that I would be SO disappointed in where they went with Stannis' story. *sigh* Yeah, up until 507 I was so ecstatic that they were doing everything right with Stannis, then two episodes later D&D decide to undo everything and ruin him. Well, at least he didn't get flayed alive or killed by Littlefinger's army and he might still be alive. I've accepted it now. Once in a while I still have relapses in my acceptance, beating my head on the wall over how great this season could've been if they just hadn't condensed so much stuff to hit their seven seasons deadline, but I think I'm over it. Now I just hope they give us a proper Northern storyline next season, with Manderly, the Freys and all. I hope we get the GNC in the show.

That sums up perfectly how I expect the first hundred or so pages of TWOW to go for him.

I imagine not but I don't think we'll even see the leadup to Stan's death in the books at all tbh. Or the death itself. Unless Theon or Asha (the only present POVs) are hanging around very close to him while he fights, which I strongly doubt. I don't think anyone of significance will kill him, so it made sense to make it Bri in the show and to give him a last nice moment.

I'm not bitter of his death anymore, but more that it was offscreen.

I'm not bitter of his death anymore, but more that it was offscreen. I was surprised by the off-screeness of it too but, really, they dedicated a solid chunk of the episode to Stannis and let Dillane act up a storm, letting him show all of the emotions of his situation and his acceptance of it and him meeting his end honestly...so I wouldn't say they were dismissive in the handling of the end of his arc. Also, showing Stan's death would've gotten as many complaints as not showing it. The Standom would go, "Ugh, why did they have to show his head rolling off! Oathkeeper should've broken, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!"
And we all know that Bri is very principled when it comes to giving folks a proper burial, so maybe we'll see a makeshift funeral for him in ep. 601. If Charlie D was willing to come back to play a corpse maybe Stevie D would be too?

If he's still under contract then he will have to come back if they want him to.

I honestly think Stannis' arc in Season 5 was one of the best the series has had in retrospect. It was incredibly tragic, he was pushed to his very limit and he still failed, and all within what had been established about his character before. That moment when he saw the Bolton army and realised it was over was fantastic. I have no doubt at all that he's dead despite the cut, Ramsay stabbing that guy immediately after says it all.
Also, I'm glad they didn't show him kicking ass in the battle. He didn't deserve to go out in a heroic moment, and the battle was a foregone conclusion anyway. If it seemed anti-climactic that's because it was and I think it was the right move.

Stannis burning Shireen in 5x09 will forever be jump the shark moment for me. Cannot believe they had to fuck up his character and then kill him off. They suck so much.

Jon is dead too, tho, he'll just get resurrected This. And Stannis is listed as dead in the HBO VG. The HBO vg isnt really going to say "yeah, he might be dead. Just wait and see..." But yeah, I'm not too optimistic. My crisis is who to root for now...

It's propably a good thing we don't have Damphair in the show. That way show Euron never molested his brother.
