One thing I don't think the show does as well as it could is giving their characters big WTF endings to their seasons. They have too much denouement going on in the finales. This show is built for cliffhangers, they should take advantage of that. They flaked on the opportunity for the single best possible cliffhanger to a TV show ever I will be so sad if they decide to end this season with loads of cliffhangers. Never4get.

The thing with cliffhangers is that on network TV a show is only gone for 4-6 months between mid season finales and all. With almost double that time between GoT Seasons a nasty cliffhanger would be brutal.

One thing I'm not sure that's been discussed: the farfaraway site that leaks the production pics every week had a bunch for last episode dealing with Stannis leaving CB which won't happen until E5. Probably a good guess that it got pushed from E4 to E5 (especially knowing that the episode runtime was so short). That probably means that Stannis leaving is happening very early on in E5.

It's fine, they've just chosen to do more sedate "ship sailing into the distance" stuff which is fine for some storylines but you should be able to take 3 or 4 and make them "holy shit" moments.

Well for Unsullied i'd say Tyrion had a big cliffhanger last year after killing Tywin and then fleeing. I think this could be a big cliffhanger year for Dany and Jon. Even Arya.

It wasn't a big "HOLY SHIT" cliffhanger, but it was an open ending nonetheless.

I think I saw someone say 5x09 Yeah, Mercy's in 509. Before that she kills the ship insurance man in a two ep. arc, which will either be 506 and 508 or 507 and 508. But it will definitely end in 508 given that 508's summary includes something like "Arya makes progress in her training".

Do you mean this? I think maybe it's just a mistaken placement? I think there needs to be that rumored Sam/Stannis scene so that would place the leaving of CB scene further in the ep...unless Stan/Sam scene was cut

That may be getting into real WoW spoiler territory.

I think if Arya's book material is completely exhausted by the end of the season, which I'm skeptical of but it's possible, then I guess they would just have her skip the finale? I don't think they'd go into TWOW spoilers for one of the major characters like that by an episode.

She'll probably skip episode 505 and maybe even 506, appearing again only in 507 and 509.

If Mercy's in 509 (likely), then it doesn't make sense for her to go blind and then get it back between then and now. Which is why it probably makes sense for them to cheat a bit and have it happen in the finale so that it at least carries some weight between seasons instead of it seeming like a cheap ploy that only sticks around for an episode or so.

The question now is if she's in 505 and 510.

She'll probably be in five episodes then.
