A thread for all things Olympics, if like me you find yourself screaming at the TC as you watch your favourite athletes compete, and need somewhere to vent and/or discuss afterwards.
Opening ceremony is tonight. I won't be able to watch since I a, working tomorrow and the time difference means it doesn't start until midnight or something

Well, the opening ceremony at least was pretty cool. The Olympic flame was incredible, reminded me a lot of the sun from the GoT intro.

I watched a movie instead of the opening ceremony, whoops. I tend to favor the Winter Olympics, but I love watching swimming, diving, gymnastics, track, and volleyball.

I want to watch gymnastics. They fascinate me. I just hope they are on at a time I can watch!

I want to watch gymnastics. They fascinate me. I just hope they are on at a time I can watch! Qualifiers were on today (mens) and again tomorrow (women's). Gymnastics is my favourite event, though I enjoy the athletics and swimming too. I've posted at length about this in confessions already though

Swiss volleyball got fucked at the end there. lol nevrmind There's a hilarious culture difference in this game where the China team has their butts fully covered and the Swiss are practically wearing thong bikinis

I just saw a gif of Samir Aït Saïd breaking his leg. Oh no! Apparently they dropped him before putting him in the ambulance.

Many years ago I was in a small car accident and it fucked up my right arm pretty bad. It looked like that guy's leg, like it was made out of rubber. The pain was unspeakable.

I didn't see video. I saw an image of the rubber leg, and that was enough. It's hard to imagine that not ending his gymnastics career.

Certainly looked bad, but if it heals cleanly and no complications he will be able to come back from this if he puts in the work once he is back. Watching the women's now. Brazil are the biggest surprise, definite home advantage there (i dont mean biased judges, i mean they are feeding off the home crowd). GB have been pretty good, Tinkler's beam was awesome, and so was Harrold's floor. I didnt see the other women's qualifiers though because i was working

Was anyone watching the women cyclists just now? Oh my God, the American woman was leading forever, but a pack of 3 came up and passed her and took all the medals at the VERY END. I think I saw her heart break.
