I also loved it. Made me miss Hannibal so much and want to re-read American Gods. Great pilot

I watched it too, and I liked it. I can't say that I really get what's going on yet, but I'm into it. Also, Ricky Whittle is ridiculously handsome. That sex scene was disturbing as fuck, though.

Don't worry, the book is pretty confusing at first too. Actually the show makes some things clearer than the book does (mostly due to how the different mediums work i guess. Whats ambiguous in writing is less so on screen) The basic premise (which I'll spoiler tag in case you dont want to know) old gods like odin, bilquis, Easter, mad sweeny and others you'll meet as the season goes on, are brought to America over the years by immigrants. They've gradually lost their power as people stop worshipping them. In opposition to them are the New Gods, like Techno Boy that we saw at the end of this episode, with the Twitter egg bodyguards. The new gods generally relate to modern day obsessiond like media, technology etc. There's more to it but that only really comes out at the end Its a great story and far more relevant than the showrunners probably expected when they began production, given the US immigration crackdown. Question on the first episode; was the attack on Sjadow supposed to evoke the imagery of lynch mobs? If so it was successful Edit; i loved the Bilquis scene. Reading it i wondered how it could possibly be done on screen. I'm really impressed with the effects and production of the show

I think that attack on Shadow was supposed to evoke the imagery of lynch mobs, I had to close my eyes. I was wondering how they'd handle the Biliquis scene but I felt like it was well done without being over the top. The casting is spot on. Mc Shane is perfect as Mr. Wednesday and so is Ricky Whittle as Shadow. Some BTS info under spoilers about the graveyard scene: Originally Fuller & friends were going to have Audrey give Shadow a BJ at the graveyard to spite their deceased spouses. Gaiman was like, oh hell no, Shadow WOULD NEVER. And said he would kill himself if they went through with it. They thought about it and axed it and feel like Gaiman was correct and the scene worked better with him turning her down. Gaiman is correct...Shadow would have never.

I thought the latter half of the episode was the best, Anasi scene aside. There were some pacing issues after Coming to America imo.

Good or bad oh my God? Watching the episode tonight... should I be nervous? It's another scene lifted from the books. Just surprisingly explicit. Actually there are two scenes directly lifted from the book, both of which are excellent. Entire cast continues to be brilliant, but McShane really shines in his role. In the awards thread a while back I said maybe he could be a contender for Emmy season, and I honestly hope he is.

Woof woof. I want an ifrit When he dropped his towel ... The guy who played Salim was super handsome as well. That entire scene was just ... woof. And at the end, when he literally filled him with fire ... jesus christ.

You can think Bryan Fuller for the explicitness; www.vulture.com/2017/05/american-gods-gay-sex-scene-bryan-fuller.htmlSpecifically asked for a reshoot..."candy cane cock"

And at the end, when he literally filled him with fire ... jesus christ. Finally watched last night and what I will say about that scene: finally we got some parity and it was really well done, tastefully done and therefore hot. I liked the build up between the two of them as well. Poor Kids in the Hall Scott Thompson. I loved the scene with Shadow and the one sister on the roof. Also the beginning scene with Anubis. Mr. Wednesday admitting the worst thing to happen to him would be to be forgotten. Cloris Leachman stays winning.

I thought the bank robbery scene was hilarious and so good. Ian McShane is too good

I read an article that this show has shown more dick in two episodes than all of TV in 2016.

Aww man so much winning this episode! Love that they are expanding on Laura. We now have her backstory and resurrection and I imagine we'll get more in time (probably when she meets Mad Sweeny). But this was really great, seeing her transition from metaphorical, u'unfulfilled zombie' to literal undead zombie. I really bought the whole apathy and discontentment with life even when you think you have it all. Doesn't make her likeable but does mean I can empathise. The scenes between her and Audrey were pure gold, hilarious and yet moving at the same time. "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE YOU ZOMBIE WHORE," And then moving from that to the touching "it's easier to grieve when you hate someone" bit. Still some comedy ("Well maybe not the same sentence but the same breath." "Maybe a follow up sentence?") but touching all the same. And it's remarkable that this scene works. It shouldn't. It should be too absurd to work. This is a scene where an undead woman with one arm is talking to her ex-best friend who's husband she had an affair with, all while shitting out embalming fluids. It should be ridiculous. But it's not, it works, oh so well. And that's down to the actresses, especially Gilpin. Anyway, here is some extra stuff
