so i saw on twitter the other day that HBO now has three game of thrones-universe shows on the way.
there's the targaryen one (which is apparently about the targ civil war), there's apparently one about dunk and egg (idk what that is, i never read those books), and then just the other day they want to make a robert's rebellion show.
i have no backbone so i already know i'll watching anything game of thrones related (despite how disappointing the OG show ended), so i'll def be there if/when these shows actually come out. but that's years away. but a robert's rebellion show means more cersei and tywin, and more cersei and tywin is always better

i'm actually playing Resident Evil 2 right now (the remake)
so i finished Leon's storyline and am halfway through Claire's right now. This storyline is NOT going where i expected it would (which is a good thing). I thought it would just be a zombie story confined to the police station, but now we've got secret labs and mad scientists and mercenaries and creepy orphanages.
the giant blue man in the trenchcoat is super annoying tho and honestly makes the game kind of a chore at times, because he makes it impossible to do anything (also i have yet to get any explanation from the story of who/what he is, but i googled it so i know he's sent to remove any survivors who know what Umbrella was doing, but it would be nice if the game actually told us that)
i really like it so i guess i'll play RE3 remake after this, even though i heard it's not as good

still no PS5 for Danny yet unfortunately. Once I do get one, my first stop is Spider Man: Miles Morales and then my second stop is Cyberpunk 2077. And then, by that point, Gotham Knights will probably be out and who knows what else. I know they're making a God of War follow-up, but i'm sure that's years away honestly.
I work at Target, so I want to make sure I get a PS5 there (because employee discount) so it's just a matter of them waiting for them to get some that don't sell out in 10 seconds.
in the mean time, i still never played the Resident Evil 2 remaster i bought for PS4, so maybe i'll kill some time with that one. i actually have lots of games i never finished, to be honest, so i can keep myself busy with those.

so in 2020 i watched a lot of TV to be honest. i watched -how to get away with murder -the undoing -the flight attendant -haunting of bly manor -dracula
and some others i can't remember. i realize this isn't actually a lot, but i have the attention span of a squirrel so it's a lot for me. HTGAWM quickly become one my favorite shows ever, so I'm really glad I watched it.

they finally announced the arkham series follow up after 3945829428 years
looks cool. its obviously too early to say whether or not the story will be good, but i like how bold the whole premise is- waiting to introduce the justice league until after they've killed off batman. and it'll be fun to play as deadshot and harley
long way out tho

been playing assassin's creed: odyssey.
gameplay is good, the world is huge (kind of bland, but still), dialogue and voice acting is atrocious about 90% of the time, but oh well. very pretty to look at.

so halfway thru, how are we feeling?
i really, really like it. dolores is going after the creepy big brother hive mind thing to cripple the human race (i think). i love love love the notion of her killing people and replacing them with robots that are loyal to her. but i also think it was a smart choice by the writers to actually give her human allies as well. dolores' only contact with the human race up to this point has been the filthy rich douchebags that come to westworld and terrorize her, so widening her perspective to see the more downtrodden people of the real world is just good writing. i think she identifies with caleb a lot more than she cares to admit.
waiting until charlotte hale was already dead to give her any sort of significant character development is such a westworld thing to do, and i totally loved it. same with stubbs. he was always just kinda there in the first two seasons, but now he's got more of a personality and an actual role in the story. now it makes sense that so much crazy shit went down with him overseeing the park, he was lowkey letting it happen.
maeve and serac's little alliance won't last. he's using her as a weapon in exchange for sending her to robot paradise, but i suspect that's not what she wants anymore. i wouldn't be shocked if she betrayed him in the end, and/or vice versa.
i have no idea what's going on with william.
my biggest takeaway from this season so far is definitely the worldbuilding that is taking place in each episode. i am obsessed with futuristic aesthetics in general, so this is like a dream for me. clearly, this is some sort of post-war civilization we're seeing, as paris was destroyed in some sort of attack at some point in the past. i like how exaggeratedly pompous the wealthy elite is portrayed as, with the engineered dreams and the drugs and the masked sex parties. likewise, the criminal underworld is cool. i think the notion of a "tinder but for crime" app is hilarious. the technology is crazy but believable, i feel like everything we're seeing is just an exaggerated version of something that already exists. it's definitely meant to be a mirror to the real world.

Basils gonna hate me but I gave up on Dragon Age Inquisition lol. Literally halfway thru the final boss battle (against the dragon). I just could not beat it to save my life.
So I started a replay of Red Dead 2 instead, just cause. Soooooo good.
Then yesterday I impulse-bought the Resident Evil 2 remake cause it was 54% off on the PlayStation store, so I’ll play that next. Apparently it’s very good.

so birds of prey was a lot better than i hoped for. random thoughts - why was huntress in the movie? the least developed member of the ensemble, and the weakest performance. especially when the whole plot focused on her family heirloom, you think they would have given her more than 5 scenes. oh well.
-loved that they didn't whitewash harley too bad. that was my biggest gripe, that they were gonna sanitize her a little too much. but for the most part, the movie actually went out of it's way to show how many people she has hurt, and what an immoral nutjob she really is. another one of the characters flat-out calls her a terrible person at the climax of the movie.
-also, the presence of the joker without the joker actually being there was a cool touch. harley rampaging through other mob boss's nightclubs with impunity because they were scared of the joker was a nice way to exemplify it. and once she's no longer the joker's girl, it's open season on her. and she's pissed off a lot of people. also relating to the joker, the way they handled their breakup was decent, by barely handling it at all. they basically just said "oh he got tired of her and put her out," which is fine. however, going as far as CGI-ing Jared Leto out of Suicide Squad flashbacks was a little extra. I guess that's a money/clearance thing? like they literally erased him from the shot.
- black canary and montoya were great. black canary being a singer is something i love in the comics, and her being roman sionis's "little bird" was cool, and showed how she was under his thumb (until she wasn't anymore). however, montoya inexplicably knowing who Dinah was, what her secret power was, who her mother was, and what her mother did was a little too convenient for me. but the thought of an OG black canary running around gotham in the 80's is cool and they should do something with that.
-black mask and zsasz were great. though it was out of left field, the sexual undertones (well, overtones, honestly) of their relationship were done well. the actual Black Mask design was good, though I wanted to see it for more than 30 seconds. the only mindfuck was that Roman and Zsasz were behind the murder of Huntress's family....that would have been believable if we weren't expected to believe that was 20 years ago, and neither of them look older than 35.
-gotham city had no flavor and didn't feel like gotham city (except for the creepy amusement park at the end). no mention of gordon, despite half the movie taking place in a police station, batman apparently doesn't exist anymore, and the joker is nowhere to be found. weird, and will never be resolved cause Batfleck is done.
-where is barbara gordon??? the birds of prey is literally her whole thing...
- my biggest grievance was cassandra cain. in the comics, cassandra is the mute, presumed-to-be autistic daughter of lady shiva and david cain, two of the most deadly assassins in the world. they had her basically as a business arrangement and to breed the perfect killer. batman eventually rescues her and blah blah blah. apparently the only thing Warner Bros remembered about her was that she was Asian, cause other than that, she's literally a different person. she talks, which defies her most defining characteristic. idk who directed the actress to talk like a white person putting on a blaccent but that was cringe. they point out she has foster parents, so i guess the door is open to possibly explore her heritage somewhere down the line, which they should def do cause lady shiva is cool as fuck. but yeah they dropped the ball on cassandra big time.
long story short it was a fun action movie, i think most of the cast did a great job. good action, nice to look at. lowkey had nothing to do with the comics, like at all, but still, it was very good for what it was. i like how it was definitely a continuation of the vibe of suicide squad, without really having anything to do with suicide squad. going forward, if there is a forward, we need to see lady shiva vs the birds of prey.

Depending on whether you side with the templars or mages, the other group becomes your enemy throughout the rest of the game. If you had allied with the templars, you wouldn't have been able to save the mages from becoming slaves to Tevinter, and they would have been the ones attacking Haven instead. Red Templars are templars who have been infected with Red Lyrium. Lyrium is this rare mineral, which is usually turned into potions used by both templars and mages to replenish their strength ... but it's also pretty addictive, and exceptionally dangerous in its raw form. Red Lyrium is blighted Lyrium (so basically the Darkspawn version of Lyrium) , which makes it a million times worse ... it drives people insane and mutates their bodies. So yeah, Red Templars are basically ex-templars who have been force fed raw Red Lyrium and are now slaves to Corypheus. So ... Corypheus. This is gonna be another huge lore dump, so bear with me. Way back when Tevinter was the most powerful nation in the world (think of Ancient Rome) and before there was the Chantry, the humans in Thedas worshipped another set of gods. They were known as the Old Gods ... seven extremely powerful ancient dragons, who, according to legend, taught humanity how to use magic. One of those Gods was Dumat, the God of Silence, and he was the one who started whispering to humanity in their dreams and telling them of the Golden City (which, according to the Chantry, was the seat of the maker in the Fade) and the power that awaits for them there. So, one day, the High Priest of Dumat (a Tevinter Magister) heard Dumat's voice in his dreams, who was once again promising humanity great knowledge and power waiting for them in the Golden City. And the High Priest was like, fuck it, I'm doing it. He summoned the High Priests of the other six gods to him, and it turned out, they too were hearing the voices of their respective gods promising them the same thing. Working together and after years of experimentation and countless blood sacrifices, the seven Magisters finally found a way to physically go into the Fade (a feat that was deemed impossible at the time), and they entered the City of the Maker. And this is where everything went really wrong, but also kind of complicated, because we don't know the whole truth of what happened then. On one hand, we have the Chantry version, which is that, when the magisters entered the Golden City, the city became tainted with their hybris and corruption and it turned black. The Maker punished the Magisters by turning them into Darkspawn and casting them out back to the physical world ... and he also imprisoned the old dragon gods deep beneath the earth. Then, the Maker turned his back on humanity forever. But the truth is probably somewhat more complicated, because according to the magisters themselves, the city was already black when they got there. It was the city that corrupted them, not the other way arround ... and the seat of the Maker was already empty. But regardless of what the truth is, whether humanity tainted the city or the other way around, the result stays more or less the same: this event marks the beginning of the Blight, and the Magisters became the first Darkspawn. As for the Old Gods, well ... a Blight happens when the Darkspawn discover the location of one of the sleeping Old Gods, and then corrupt him into an Archdemon. Ironically, Dumat became the first Archdemon and he was slain by Grey Wardens. In the hundreds of years between then and now, four more Blights have occured and four more Archdemons have been slain ... which means that of the original seven Old Gods, only two remain, and they are still sleeping. So, to get back to your question: Who is Corypheus? He was one of the original Tevinter magisters, who assaulted the Golden City, one of the people who brought the Blight upon humanity. Before he became Darkspawn, he was the High Priest of Dumat. Corypheus was captured by Grey Wardens, but because they could not kill him, they kept him imprisoned for hundreds of years. He came free in one of the Dragon Age 2 DLCs, and is now trying to finish what he started all those years ago. By the way, if the game ever takes you inside the Fade, look above you and you will see the Black City. It's visible from every point in the Fade ... always visible, but always out of reach. Whenever I play Dragon Age, I usually spend way too much time in the Fade, just taking in the atmosphere and staring at the city in absolute awe. It's one of the most fascinating pieces of lore in the entire series for me. ohhhh okay, I thought he WAS one of the old gods. So he wants to overthrow the Maker and put the old gods back in charge? Thank you and sorry for so many questions 😭😭

So I went with the mages. Went forward in time, then went back, killed some crazy guy and gave the Mages full rights as long as they help me.
Did some other shit and had a party. I was tryna get faded but then some Red Templars (no clue what that is) and a dragon and some disfigured dude showed up and sacked the whole fuckin city.
Ran through the snow, sat through a 15 minute cutscene with a random musical number, and we relocated to a new castle. Nice.
So who tf is the villain? I was tryna follow along and figure out what he wants and what the actual storyline here is and I still have no idea.

The Chantry is the predominant religious organization in Thedas. It's a monotheistic religion based on the teachings of Andraste (who is basically Joan of Arc and Jesus combined), and who, according to the Chant of Light, became the wife of the Maker. The Chantry itself is not a government, but it holds great political influence over many nations (especially Orlais) and also has considerable military strength in form of the Templars. It's kind of difficult to briefly summarize the conflict between the mages and templars, because it's such a big part of the overarching narrative of the series, but I'll try. So, when you are born a mage in the Dragon Age setting, that's not really a good thing for you (unless you're from Tevinter, which is the only nation ruled by mages). Magic is considered extremely dangerous and everyone who shows signs of magic is forced to join one of the Circles, regardless of their age or social status (those who refuse to join are considered apostates and will be killed on sight by the Templars). The Circles of Magi are basically a mix between Hogwarts and a concentration camp. As a circle mage you are allowed to learn and practise your craft, but at the end of the day, you are a prisoner and the Templars are your wards. Furthermore, at a certain point in your training as a cirlce mage, you will be forced to undergo the Harrowing ritual, which is a test meant to determine whether or not a mage is capable of resisting demon possession. If you pass, you are considered a full fledged circle mage ... but if you fail, you are killed on the spot by a templar. The only alternative to the Harrowing ritual is the Rite of Tranquility, in which a mage's connection to the Fade is severed, which makes them immune to possession but also strips them of all their powers and leaves them lobotomized (which is something that most mages consider a fate worse than death). There's also the so-called Right of Annulment ... which allows Templars to kill literally every single mage in a Circle, if they believe it necessary to restore peace and order. So, naturally, there have always been major tensions between Templars and Mages ... but things escalated dramatically at the end of Dragon Age 2, when a rogue mage blew up the Chantry building in Kirkwall. As a response, the Knight-Commander of the Templars in Kirkwall (who was kind of insane) invoked the Right of Annulment, and this caused ripples throughout all Thedas. Mages were (rightfully) outraged at the mere thought that an entire circle was to be exterminated for the actions of just one person, which led to revolts all across Thedas ... which in turn led to the Templars inflicting even harsher punishments and restrictions on the mages. Eventually, the Circles started falling apart, and some mages joined Grand Enchanter Fiona in her attempt to restore order and secure more freedom for mages. Others however went completely rogue and mad with power and started wreaking havoc all across the land. At the beginning of Dragon Age Inquisition, the Mage-Templar War is in full swing and there's chaos everywhere. In a last attempt to broker peace between the two fractions, the head of the Chantry, Divine Justinia, summons their leaders to a conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. But, unfortunately, something went super wrong and the temple exploded, killing everyone attending the conclave ... except you. Furthermore, in the wake of the destruction, strange rifts started appearing everywhere across Thedas, through which spirits and demons from the Fade could enter the physical world. No one knows why, but your character seems to be the only one capable of closing those rifts. That's pretty much the gist of it and the premise leading up to Inquisition. Hope it's not information overkill. no thats awesome, thank you!! Makes sense lol This combat is kind of irking me. But I am enjoying it so far.

Ok so...
The Chantry is the Church, but not the government. The Templars are one section of the Chantry, who have gone rogue and have beef with the Mages? And are in a massive war for some reason?
And my character wakes up in the custody of the Chantry (the ones who haven’t gone rogue) and we reform the Inquisition, an older military order to clean up the mess everyone else is making and fight the supernatural threat?
Did I get that right?

Finished His Dark Materials. No clue wtf was happening that entire show. It was cool tho. Really? It wasn’t particularly complicated and was explained pretty well - even more clearly/explicitly than in the books thats nice My only big hang up is not understanding Mrs. Coulter’s motivations, and being that she’s the main villain, I feel like I should. So she’s cutting the children away from the daemons because the Magisterium suspects this will rid the world of sin. Um...okay. But she doesn’t strike me as a religious fanatic, so nothing leads me to believe she actually cares about any of that. I think she’s just seeking power. Also the mother/daughter relationship is very toxic. They seem to manipulate each other at different parts of the story. Marisa is (through the daemons) violent with both Lyra and herself, so clearly she’s got issues. I think she just views Lyra as a possession, and that’s why she has some twisted maternal protectiveness over her. Or maybe I’m dead wrong? Also how is this Magisterum guy traveling between worlds. That was a big complaint from me- I don’t think I even know that guys name lol. As a subplot it was very undercooked. I liked the whole dynamic of will/his mom/etc but like...why are they here? These questions will prob be answered in a future season (has this been renewed?) but idk i feel like they should’ve been answered already.
