I really don't know why I asked. No matter what the answer is, I'll probably be annoyed. Is there something you want to ask? Sorry if i offended you... No, not at all. I just realized that if you said people were impatient, I'd be annoyed, and if you said they gave up, I'd be annoyed, so I don't know why I even asked. Are any of you on Westeros.org these days? I'm just curious what the general feeling is about the book wait among the fan base. Have people given up? Are they being patient? i pride myself on being on the most hated posters on Westeros, among that certain pocket of fans whose favorite drink is haterade. It's split. Half are getting tired of the wait and are losing hope that the series will ever be finished. The other half is of the "how dare you question lord GRRM he will finish his masterpiece at his own pace" mindset. Honestly, GRRM is doing other projects, even within the ASOIAF universe, so it feels like he is writing anything but tWoW at this point lol. I think he's losing interest in the series. Yep, I'm annoyed.

Gave up on posting anything about GoT on Westeros about 2 years ago, mainly because all the witty old timers left. Linda's wining about season 5 was so bad I could not stand to listen to her talk about season 6. Her general petulance is irradiating. Eiio opted out of reviewing the show because he thought there would be too many book spoilers, even if it seems that has not really turned out to be the case. I can't tell if Elio and Linda are still in touch with George , at least in the sense of them doing more ASoIaF stuff together. There has been such a controversy associated with Linda's forum doings in the last year I really wonder if she and GRRM are still in contact?

I haven't been an active member there since before the show started. I checked back in that one day after and found that everyone had lost their minds. With such strong personalities it wouldn't surprise me if there has been a falling out. I'm sure westeros.org is also a constant reminder to George that his books aren't done. Not so much fun.

Has anyone ever put forward the thesis that GRRM is deliberately lagging , or maybe has actually finished WoW, because with the show so close to closure , not publishing until 2018, Winds and Dream might make more money if the show was just flat over? People might be more curious then about differences?

I agree with DaveyJoe, we can count ourselves lucky if GRRM manages to publish TWOW. I have lost all faith he will finish the whole series.

There was a six year gap between A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons too, though.
I guess it's okay to speculate, but none of us knows George in real life, all we know is that he says he's still working on the next book, and I honestly see no reason to doubt that.
It took Tolkien almost twenty years to finish Lord of the Rings.

A Feast for Crows is my second favourite ASoIaF novel. Only liked it cuz of the Greyjoys and LSH.

I admit i haven't fully finish Feast and Dance. I was so bored by them and the internet helped me know what i missed (not really...). I've read the other three (or four, if you split Storm) multiple times, but only Feast and Dance once. They were quite difficult to get through the first time for me because of the multiple new viewpoints that don't really lead up to much. I wouldn't say I was bored by them, but they were quite a slow burn.

I think it would had been best if he slim some of the character's arc instead, like Dany's and Tyrion's, or omit few of the POV like Arys and Quantyn. I find that both the books doesn't work mainly due to dragging the story so slow in a convoluted mess. Like Dany's plot is going nowhere and she is back to square one. Tyrion's arc in Dance is mostly exposition. Plots that was told from Arys' and Quantyn's could had been narrate from other character's POV like Arianne or Barristan.

I finished AFFC but not ADWD and I haven't fully read any of the TWOW released chapters.
I'm willing to do a full proper reread when GRRM announces the TWOW release date but I've lost all hope for it lol

Whenever I re-read Feast and Dance I used the boiled leather combined reading order and enjoyed them a fair bit more.

I'm one of the rare fans that absolutely loves Dany's arc in TDWD, probably my favorite arc in the entire series, but Tyrion's arc in that book was a real chore. Totally pointless.
