He was actually less in a douche in that season 1 moment than he is in season 6

More echoing dialogue.
At around 3:05 Sam says "oh, they'll bloody try."
At around 2:26 Sam says "he can bloody well try."

I thought of the parallel between Cersei and sansa in that throne room. They stood in similar positions and watched as the king betrayed them.
Sansa was happy about hers but Cersei was not.

Good one. My empathy for her was off the charts in this one...hasn't been like that since the walk of shame.

tyrion bullying missandei and grey worm into drinking with him reminded me of cersei doing the same to sansa during blackwater.

302 when the sack is taken off of Sandor's head: Thoros, the fuck you doing here? 608 when the BowB sees Sandor approach: Clegane, the fuck you doing here?

All we're missing is Sansa, Bran, and probably Rickon and we can have the complete set of Starks walking off like a boss.

Instead of writing up a little review/recap/reaction like I normally do in the rating thread, I decided to write a 6x08 post for this thread. This episode was chockfull of echoes and repeats. Thematically, it was about people making choices and lining up on sides, and most people have come full circle and arrived back at their old selves, while a few have changed completely. I put it behind a spoiler tag for length. Once again Arya was saved by an adult who admired and respected her but also saw her vulnerability. There have been so many now. Arya is amazing, but she has had a lot of help to keep her alive. This is the first time, though, that she has had a woman take care of her. We didn’t even get to see her with Catelyn, so this was touching. I also noticed that Lady Crane looked just like Cersei when she used Arya’s advice to change the lines. She looked exactly like Catelyn when she was nursing Arya. The Clegane Brothers are continuing on parallel but opposite stories. Switching places (one leaves KL, one arrives), getting into massive fights, one nearly dying coming back a better man, and the other actually dying and coming back worse. The Hound has always been a brutal champion of the underdog (harr) in the making, and now he’s going for it. The Mountain was figuratively a monster in life, and now in undeath, he is actually one. In this episode, they displayed their preferred styles of decapitation. Bronn helpfully sucker-punched Pod just as he helpfully sucker-punched Jaime. Tyrion is once again all alone and trying to beg, buy, or steal some friends. Only this time instead of having experienced, worldly drinkers to play games with, he has former slaves who have never drank or joked. And, it’s the fucking honeycomb and jackass joke again, and we still don’t get to hear what happens! Oh, Jaime, he is back to being that awful person again. But this time, he tells us why, and then Edmure does the same thing…screws over other people ruthlessly to save the person he loves most, his infant son that he’s never even met. Parental love is fierce, and apparently so is an incestuous twin’s love for his sister. He has morphed into exactly the man Tywin always wanted him to be and the very thing that Tyrion told him he could be, which is basically Tywin… And Brienne sailing away was very much like this. It’s too bad they can’t be together. She’s probably the only person in the Seven Kingdoms who truly respects him. Arya still has her own set of morals. They may be murky and dark compared to most people, but she does not kill men who help her, even if she (sort of) hates them.

In 607 both Sandor and Arya tried to escape to a different kind of life, but both were violently brought back to what they were used to. In 608 Sandor and Arya got revenge of those that caused problems in the previous episode, and both characters appear to be heading in a new direction. I suspect they will continue to parallel each other when they show up again.
Edit: And both lost their recent friends. Sandor - Ray Arya - Lady Crane

The episode title 'No one' was heavy with symbolism for a lot of the main characters: Arya: who's wanted to be no one for a long time now realises she is someone Tyrion: People always knew who we was in Westeros, in Essos he finds himself alone with no one to remind him he is Tywins imp son, because no one cares. He wants to be known and make a name for himself here, but as Grey Worm tells him to shut up he realises he is no one here. Cersei: She always saw herself as Queen, and still does. But Kevan basically tells her she is no one anymore and she should go stand in the gallery with the other nameless ladies of the court. Brienne: Constantly reminding people who she is this episode 'Brienne of Tarth'. And i think she finds solidarity in what that means. Jaime: He has just been stripped of everything he thought he was, a Kingsguard, a knight who was to serve the King for the rest of his life. He is sick of being 'kingslayer' and being ashamed of that. We see Jaime owning up to a lot of things and reclaiming his right as a Lannister commander.

More on Jaime and Brienne, and the symbolism of the sword. It's made from Ned Stark's Valyrian steel...it will be important in the North against the White Walkers. I think this means Brienne will live to fight them, and Jaime will not. It's also symbolic because its name is Oathkeeper, and that is what Brienne is. She is the true knight Jaime always wanted to be. She commits herself to an honorable quest (like saving her Lady's children), and she fully commits herself and refuses to stop until she succeeds. She refuses to dishonor herself along the way. Jaime understands now that he can't be that knight. He can't be with Brienne. He doesn't deserve that sword. He is Tywin Lannister's son and Cersei's soulmate, and he has to fight for his family.

The scene in 602 when the guards stop Cersei outside her room and she goes back inside sort of parallels with the scene in 608 where the Sparrows stop Cersei outside her room and she fights them. Same setup, different results.
