Looking again archiechvyalthan amazing "Road to Season 6" thread, I'm almost sure that this episode will be remembered as the weakest of the season. The fact that it was not by any means a bad episode tells about the stellar Season 6 we'll have in the end. I feel like the worst thing about the episode was that it had like 200 storylines going on - they need to really cut down on that. But the individual scenes were very strong with a couple of exceptions.

Still, the good parts were so chilling, it managed to overcome the plodding bits for me. Jon's return is just too big and I appreciate the way they handled it... he's terrified.

Yes, his first scene may be Kit's best work ever. Loved how they handled it. And I'm soooo happy I won't have to hear "I'm a man of the Night's Watch bla bla bla" EVER again

The High Sparrow and Tommen .... yawn. Best scene after ToJ for me. It was a glorious scene. And we got to know a bit about the High Sparrow's past!

The fight in ToJ is so well choreographed. I love it.
I like that Bran is being all pissy with Bloodraven, that's very realistic.

As much as I prayed for Natalia's return over the years this should not have been the way I kinda wished they'd killed her off right away. This is gonna be a bitch to watch.

Best part of this episode: Jon, hands down. I may be in the minority but I love emo Jon. For the past 4 1/2 seasons he was angsty and emo but he was also a whiny little bitch. Now he's still emo but he's a badass. The old Jon might have spared Olly just because Olly was a kid, orphaned by the Wildlings. Undead Jon is like, "Fuck this kid." And seeing Alliser die was very satisfying to me. Tormund wins best quote of the episode: I always suspected Jon had a small pecker. But at least he has other talents. *ahem* The opening scenes between Davos and Jon were really touching. Kit did a good job of portraying a range of emotions, from fear and bewilderment to grief and anger. It seems that Davos, now that he's lost his own son and Shireen, has stepped in as a surrogate father to Jon. I enjoy their relationship. And Davos is just awesome, period. Jon walking away from Castle Black and his parting words to Edd kind of hurt, but I'm anxious to see him move on from the Wall. As much as I love Arya, I was getting so sick of watching her get beat up by the waif. Good to see that saga end. And I got a little thrill out of hearing the Hound's name mentioned and hearing Arya acknowledge that she'd taken him off her list. The Ramsay-Umber scene was really good. Poor Shaggydog -- but that didn't upset me as much as I thought it would. I wasn't attached to Shaggydog the way I am attached to Ghost. The Tower of Joy scene was good. The casting for young Ned and Ser Arthur Dayne was spot on. Can't wait to see the rest of it. (I had a suspicion that we wouldn't get the full ToJ scene in one episode so I'm not disappointed.) The rest of the episode was meh. Congrats to D&D for finally figuring out how to make Tyrion boring: just stick him with the two most uninteresting characters on the show. WHERE IS BRONN???

It will either be a random extra or Osha. Pleeeeaaaaase make it happen.

Now that the show confirmed Jon will leave the NW on a technicality (which I've suspected will happen in the books since I first read ADwD), I have to say, I don't like it. Feels a bit cheap to me honestly. Yes he died, but the vows also say and for all nights to come. Idk how leaving the NW with Dolorous Edd in charge with an impending WW attack seems like a good idea. I'm sure Jon will go off and unite the north, and thus having a much better resistance to fight them, but it feels like it's more about Jon being free to sit the IT at the end tof me. If that does happen I would have rather the NW completely disbanded out of not being necessary anymore. I think if your leadership group turns on you and stabs you to death, you're allowed to say "fuck this shit, I'm done with this organization" with no further consequences. Pretty much everyone involved would put a tally into the "perfectly understandable action" column. Oh, absolutely.

Damn, the last scene is so good. They could have taken the easy road and have the mutineers scared sh-tless of Jon 2.0, but no.
Alliser Thorne went out with dignity intact. Bowen Marsh's last words were kind of sad. And Olly went out like the bastard that he was, zero regrets. Loved it.
It would have made it easier for Jon if they were suddenly regretful or scared because the plot demanded it. But nope. They died thinking they were right.
