Aha, I'd forgotten that we can still expect that Sam-Stan scene John Bradley was talking about. I guess soonish too, so I ought to mention it in the 505 thread. I just want Stannis to throw shade at everyone in that Castle He almost has really.

:lolgiggle: Stannis definitely arrives outside winterfell this season. The reason he may have blood on his face is either Deepwood Motte, or a preliminary fight outside winterfell or killing someone

So do we think Sam and Gilly eventually go to Oldtown? I think D&D have only held off on it because this season characters appear to have the ability to teleport and they don't want him to get there until the end of the season.

Weird, first D&D mock and make Stannis look like a villain who burns people for stupid reasons and now they're going to make him look like a hero. This character development seems too rushed and forced really. Jaime had to change because of Brienne and because he lost his bloody hand and Stannis had to change because ?

I don't think they've ever made him look villainous, just more ruthless. Even though he burns people for being infidels, he doesn't seem to take pleasure in it and he's still completely honest about his intentions in his dialogue, so it doesn't look like forced development to me. Most non-readers that don't like him just don't because of his affiliation with Melisandre and his merciless way of carrying out justice. I've never seen one who thinks he's actually evil.

I think because before in the eyes of unsullied it was villian!Stannis vs hero!Robb followed by season 4 where he did almost nnothing. Now it has to be villain!Boltons vs hero!Stannis.

I actually read few days back that Stannis is only a "bit better than Joffrey" on one blog and I thought man, did that show fail if there is even one person who thinks that.

To be fair, I've seen a few people back on Westeros.org that think that way

One friend of mine (Unsullied of course) heavily dislikes Stannis. She thinks that he's purely heartless, boring and completely manipulated by Melisandre. She should change her mind when she sees the scene between Stannis and Shireen in 5.04. The ironic part of her calling him "boring" is that she's a fan of "khaleesi". The Melisandre thing is partially true on the show.

During the Battle of Blackwater, I wanted Stannis to win even though I cared about Tyrion, Varys, Bronn, and Sansa in King's Landing. I never really thought of Stannis as a villain though because while he appeared to want Robb dead in the show, he still supports the Starks (Ned and Jon at least) and he has good motivations and sees the real threats. The main villains in the show now are Cersei, Roose, Ramsay, and Littlefinger. Yeah his Dragonstone scenes were a little boring, but he had just lost a major battle, obviously he wasn't going to take on another conflict until he was ready.

I still find it strange how people can hate Stannis but love Dany. Both can be just as ruthless. Dany crucified all those masters and also burn péople alive. I guess having dragons makes you more likeable for some reason.

Yeah I read AGOT and ACOK after Season 2, ASOS after Season 3, and AFFC and ADWD after Season 4.

When Melisandre said something, Stannis changed his opinion instantly.. and Dany is supported because she's a woman in a man's world.

He was quite good in season 4, though, with little influence from Melisandre, except for the "infidel" burning in episode 2. He acted like a boss for most of the season.
