Did any of you saw The Conversation? The Francis Ford Coppola film? Yes. Did any of you saw The Conversation? The Francis Ford Coppola movie? It's excellent. Ford isn't in it much, if that's what you're asking. But it's very good so I'd recommend it strongly anyways. Crap.

Did any of you see The Conversation? Not much Ford, but a hell of a movie. Magnificent tense/paranoid thriller, and a wonderful study on guilt and religion. Gene Hackman acting is superb here, maybe the best work of his entire career (well, The French Connection and Unforgiven are candidates too).

Understated instead of explosive. Plus Robert Duvall shows up for a millisecond or two, so it's my two favorite actors from that era in the same movie.

As good as he is in Unforgiven, Royal Tenenbaum might be my favorite role of his. He's great in everything though honestly.

The Conversation was really good. Hackman was awesome. Ford and Cazale good in their small parts. Still Coppolas worst movie of the 70s Godfather 1 through Apocalypse Now might be the best run ever from a director. I wasn't a fan of Hawk myself. I found the story on Hugh Glass wiki page more interesting than the story put down in the movie if I'm being honest. I don't think the movie works without Hawk. I wouldn't really blame Hardy's character for merely leaving Hugh Glass out of self preservation, but killing his son puts the quest for revenge on another level I think it would have worked fine. Glass going for revenge because they left him for dead and took his gun is cooler to me haha. Also Glass being forced to spare Fitzgerald at the end could have been handled well and made for a better ending imo. I'm with Roose in that the Native American searching party always on his trail just didn't work for me, think I liked the movie more than he did though

To be honest The Revenant wasn't nearly as good as everyone made it to be. It was a good film, but not worth of all that hype. DiCaprio and Hardy were good in their roles, but I think Glass's character was lacking something. I had no emotional attachment to him or his annoying son whatsoever. At first it seemed like that Fitzgerald was this generic dick character, but I'm glad he really wasn't. The whole Indians are looking for the chief's daughter (?) subplot was bland, and the hallucinations Glass had felt bit forced. It was a good film, but I doubt I'll see it again. 3/5. I understand where you're coming from, but I think what makes this movie so special is not the writing/characterization, but how it was directed and how magnificent the camera work was. The story itself is pretty simple and doesn't say much (that's why this movie isn't a 10/10 for me either), but every frame looks like a painting. The cinematography and choreography were breathtaking (e.g. the entire beginning of the movie). Oftentimes these types of movies don't work for me (Fury Road), but this one did. Probably because it felt extremely raw and naturalistic.

Well, not a surprise, the guy is a genius. He has directed 3 or 4 masterpieces, something hard to achieve being "only" 45 years old.

I found Capturing The Friedmans on youtube. It was a recommended doc that came up in a bunch of lists after I watched Making a Murderer. Has anyone else seen it? It looks interesting.
And I'm still sad after watching Dear Zachary.

Quick question: does anyone have the LotR Extended Edition Blu-Rays? I have the trilogy on DVD, but I'm wondering if the higher quality is really worth the money. I love these movies, but I don't want to spend that much money if the Blu-Rays are only marginally better than the DVDs.

I've never seen the movies on DVD, but the quality of the BluRays is amazing, so yes, I'd say it's worth the money.

They are not only remarkable better in quality, but they included 25+ hours of bonus material that any fan would love. So yep, it's worth it (although a bit expensive, I think)
