Pasted some from the old thread I couldn't see either of them as Holden tbh. I pictured him much more physically imposing. I remember him being described as super tall. Great book. Need to read it again. It's been a few years and I think it would greatly benefit from a re-read now that I'm older. After seeing The Proposition I think Hillcoat would be a good choice for an adaptation. Similar vibes. It'd probably be best to go with an unknown. Though I could also see Vincent D'Onofrio in the part.
And of course Hillcoat did the Road, so he knows how to pull it off. I'd still prefer Andrew Dominik though because of the Assassination of Jesse James. And he really ought to work more.
God Jesse James is the fucking best. Better than No Country and just edges There Will Be Blood. What a year that was

It still baffles me how underrated Andrew Dominik is. Sadly the guy is not very prolific. Just three movies in his entire career, although he has a couple of films in development right now.

He has an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' Blonde in the works. But it keeps getting pushed back and back and back every year.

Upcoming movie watching wishes:
1) The Witch 2) Hail Cesar 3) Deadpool and stubborn refusal to acknowledge the existence of all other comic book movies (except Suicide Squad if y'all confirm it's good) 4) Get around to seeing Hateful 8 at some point

Beautifully shot, and we'll acted, but it had serious pacing issues imo. I found it very slow. Not a bad movie, but I certainly didn't love it as much as some people.

Unforgiven is better. Just barely squeaks in your 25 year time frame. I also really love Tombstone, and the remake of 3:10 To Uma.

By the way, my three favorite westerns ever are (in no particular order) "High Noon", "The Searchers" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". Although I have seen lately a lot of excellent Anthony Mann westerns and some of them could easily make my list soon!

Of Jesse James? Yeah I heard that too, Andrew Dominik can't seen to catch a break. Apparently he has a way better cut of Killing Them Softly he's put together too but it's as if he's incapable of not getting fucked over by the studios and producers he works with.

To be honest The Revenant wasn't nearly as good as everyone made it to be. It was a good film, but not worth of all that hype. DiCaprio and Hardy were good in their roles, but I think Glass's character was lacking something. I had no emotional attachment to him or his annoying son whatsoever. At first it seemed like that Fitzgerald was this generic dick character, but I'm glad he really wasn't. The whole Indians are looking for the chief's daughter (?) subplot was bland, and the hallucinations Glass had felt bit forced. It was a good film, but I doubt I'll see it again. 3/5.

How was Hawk annoying in any way? I found him pretty sympathetic.

It would take a LOT to fix that one. Terrible movie. Such a waste of a good cast.
