Well it's also important to note that IF they're filming a full on ToJ scene complete with Sean Bean and actors for at least the role of Lyanna, Arthur Dayne and one hopes Howland Reed - the tower set is in Spain and filming there has not started yet (Oct). @konradsmith made a good point that they *could* potentially do most of the scene indoors and thus have it be some undisclosed location in Belfast studios. However, I tend to think that if they've gone through all the trouble of securing the Castillo de Zafra for this scene, they'll definitely want to have some outdoor shots as well, wouldn't they? Ned and crew riding up to the tower from a distance, confronting the three Kingsguard, that was all outside the tower. So from that knowledge I can reasonably speculate that maybe Sean Bean or other actors would film in Spain. In which case Sean Bean's secret arrival to the set could be hopefully covered up. While I love leaks, I'd love it even more if they actually made a concerted effort to hide this one! They made zero effort to hide Kit's return to Belfast however, so I'm not going to expect much. What's cracking me up is that not only they didn't but also the people from the show keep telling people Jon is dead, gone and not returning

If he comes back, I think someone'll spot Sean Bean. Particularly if he shoots in Spain (which I think he would, we'd at least see him riding up to the tower). If things are like last year, Spain will be the most transparent part of the shoot with more set pics to look at then we can keep up with. Which is one reason to be happy they're shooting EVEN MORE there this year.

I was disappointed that Ned did not have this flashback in season 1, so however they managed to include it, I'll be fine with it. As far I know, Jason Momoa's cameo was not spoiled in season 2. I didn't follow the show like I do now and I don't think as many folks were seeking out the cast back then as they are now. The show is not even bothering to hide Kit & David Bradley and if they can't hide those two, I don't know they'd hide Sean Bean. I love to see him back...I'll be curious if we do or if we get a younger Ned. Ned at this time had to be in his early 20's, correct?

They never established the ages of Ned and Robert in the show (though we know Jaime and Cersei were forty early on in s4) but Sean Bean definitely looked at least fifteen years older than his book counterpart in s1. So they'd only have to de-age him into his thirties if they went that route, I think.

Yes everyone on Reddit keeps arguing that Sean Bean would have to be "de-aged" to his 20's for it to make sense but that's not true at all considering the show has aged up everyone, not just the kids. There's no reason to recast a young adult Ned if Sean Bean can easily pass for his 30's with the right hair and makeup.

I would say that Ned and Robert were aged up about 5 - 10 years in the show so Ned would probably be in his late 20's at the ToJ since it they said Robert's Rebellion occurs 17 years before the events of Season 1. Considering Sean Bean is 56, they're gonna have a fun time trying to make him look almost 30 years younger.

So I think the youngest he could pass for then would be his late-to-mid-forties. So I'd still say Ned would more likely be in his thirties seventeen years prior to his s1 age, whatever it was. Still. De-aging CG is hard to get right but without a second young Ned casting call I think that's the route they're going with.

De-aging CGI is super expensive. I think people really need to keep that in mind. It's not cheap or easy and not something they probably want to resort to. They have enough challenging and expensive CGI challenges moving forward as it is.

They have enough challenging and expensive CGI challenges moving forward as it is. We'll see. But the first Arthur Dayne casting call was quite a while ago and there hasn't been a ToJ-aged Ned casting call yet, which I imagine would require a pretty specific Sean Bean-looking actor. So now that we know the scene's in and we know Ned has to be in it, that leaves the option of Bean coming back as a very realistic possibility, particularly because he's said before he'd love to return in some capacity.
We should also remember that it was probably quite expensive to do the face switcheroo thing for the Walk of Shame but they committed to it all the same. Also I imagine if they do go the de-aging route they could show him mostly in the distance at first, maybe even with a helmet on and only do a few close-ups of his face. That would spare having to do too much of it, I think.
Anyways, if it's as memorable as the latest Arthur Dayne casting call makes it out to be, I think they'd put the money aside. It being Bean and not some lookalike would add a lot to the scene, I think. But who knows.

I think they'll do what they can to make Bean look a little younger but mostly just count on the audience giving them some suspension of disbelief that this is Ned a number of years ago. It's a small trade-off for the benefit of getting to see Bean doing the role again instead of a whole new actor.

A different haircut and some makeup plus soft lighting can go a long way in making somebody look younger.

Also, a cape blowing in the wind, distinguished glasses and a handsome woman at your side with a sword will make you look majestic as fuck.

I thought in season 1, Ned was supposed to be 40 (aged up 5 years from the book) and the kids were all aged up 3 years. I don't know if the show kept Robert's Rebellion 15 years prior or 20 years prior. I would LOVE to see Sean back as Ned however they have to do it to make him look a little younger would be fine by me! Sean has said over the years he would be glad to do a cameo for the show, so we know he's open to it.

The show timeline for Robert's Rebellion is however old Jon is supposed to be in S1. Was he 16?
