That's great news. Love me some Tyene and the Snakes. There is only one Snake I'll ever love and it is this one: What about Snake Plissken out of Escape from New York?

What about Snake Plissken out of Escape from New York? I've never seen that movie. I've only ever seen bits of it on TV myself. But I remember Kurt Russell's character's stupid name.

I've never seen that movie. I've only ever seen bits of it on TV myself. But I remember Kurt Russell's character's stupid name. It's funny, "Escape from New York" was actually a huge inspiration for Hideo Kojima to create the Metal Gear series. The main protagonist, Solid Snake, was named after Kurt Russel's character from that movie and in Metal Gear Solid 2, Snake even uses the pseudonym "Pliskin" for a time.

I think there is a lot invested for GRRM to finish the series. It's kind of like how JR Rowling has written other books outside of the Harry Potter realm but she keeps revisiting that world (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The Canon but not a prequal "Harry Potter" play) and she'll be best known for Harry Potter. I am optimistic that he finishes the series out...because even if the show does spoil the ending, I want to read how GRRM gets to that point.

^Well he's apparently 5/7ths through it, so there's a fair chance he does in the next ten years if he remains in good health. If he's only a third through the Dunk and Egg novellas though, I imagine those'll never be completed. (Which is fine by me tbh, because I never read the fuckers, nor do I especially intend to).

This season made me realize more than ever I'd rather wait 10 or 15 or 20 years and get a proper version of the show instead of getting simplified, derailed series we are getting now. And hell, I'm not even that big fan of the books. I read them, I like Cat. That's the extent of it. The show used to be great but now....I really rather they waited longer for more material to be available from Martin himself not the Bad Puussy team As I said, I don't agree with every decision D&D make, but I still think that the show is doing a fine job for the most parts. Season 5 is underrated IMO. Cersei is a much more morally-ambiguous character than in the books. Book!Cersei is a straight-up villain and sometimes even cartoonish. Arya's arc was fascinating and didn't lack any direction like in the books. The addition of Hardhome was spectacular and through it, the show established The Others as a huge threat in 20 minutes. Something the books have failed to do so far. The season even made me care about Meereen, which I found dead boring in the books. And don't get me started on the endless travelogues (Tyrion, Sam, Brienne). I don't want to read the phrase "where do whores go" ever again. Yes, the show has some simplifications (Stannis, particularly in 5x09), but most things were streamlined rather than simplified. The story became more focused and in many parts better because of it, IMO. A lso, I think it is a bit unfair to take 2 seconds of meaningless, silly and humourous dialogue ("bad pussy") between two secondary/tertiary characters and deduce from that that the overall quality has suffered. There were some great monologues and dialogues in this season, like there have been in every season so far. GRRM is a good writer, but AFFC and ADWD are far from being great. I thought Season 5 was surprisingly good considering that it was an adaptation of these books. But yeah, I, of course, respect your opinion and I hope that Season 6 will be more to your liking. I was just trying to be succinct. I could give you 100 of examples as to why I think this season was badly written. So there's that. Also though, a production like this can't be delayed a year on the off-chance that GrrM actually writes a bit of his next book in time for them. They have to keep moving and working with the material he's told them about, especially now that it's apparent that they'll be the ones to "make an end" (to quote the RW) and not him. I wasn't talking about the SSnakes, but the writers. I'm not sure why you wrote the following since my argument is that they shouldn't have launched the show when they did but wait for more material to be published. It is what it is now, unfortunately.

I don't think they suspected back when the show was launched just how slow GrrM's progress would be though. Either way I'm glad to know when we're getting the ending. 2017 sounds good to me.

And even with all the problems of Season 5, I still think Season 2 was the weakest. Though, Blackwater was my favorite episode of the series and it was written by GRRM. It's not that D&D are bad writers because they are certainly capable of writing original scenes between non-pov characters of the books. I think the problem was that AFFC and ADWD are not as great for television as ASOS and when you take 2 books that are heavily character development it's harder to portray on screen within 10 episodes without becoming tedious. So it was really a huge risk trying to condense that. What happened with Dorne, Sansa's rape, and Stannis in the last 2 episodes in the writing room I have no idea, but if you eliminate that, was the season all that bad?

Season 5 was always going to be a weird season because of what they had to cram in. In retrospect the rape scene wasn't bad because sansa wasn't reduced to a snivelling victim and she actually did take action to escape herself. I never much cared for Stannis (honestly, I think he's a dick in both book and the show) so the complete implosion of his arc hasn't been a sticking point for me. In fact, it was clearly very deliberate and VERY ASOIAF. To make him more sympathetic and likeable only to pull the rug from under us and have him do something awful (that wasn't out of nowhere, no matter what people say. People have been worrying about Shireen and picking up on the hints since at least season 4) and then have him die. GRRM might end up doing it all very differently, but that kind of sudden turning of the tables is not something he is above doing. My only gripe is that the events of episode 10 were a little too quick, but they didn't really have the time for much else.

The only problem I had with season 2 was in Essos episodes 3 - 10, and among those really only eps 3-9, I thought ep 10 worked in the long run. There was an adaptation problem with Qarth and I can see why , lots of inner dialog with Dany. I think this could have been solved with a more imagination but D&D seemed to throw up their hands worked on Westeros stuff. I felt that Tyrion's 'adventure' in KL was great, I thought they were clever with Arya at Harrenhal (in fact a bit more interesting story than in the book) , the introduction of Dragonstone, Brienne's introduction, North of the Wall was fine, poor Theon's story at Winterfell, the Westerlands (seemed a little off, but mostly ok), the introduction of Ygritte, Blackwater. Lets see, everything that was ok: KL North of the Wall Harrenhal Dragonstone Westerlands The Stromlands Iron Islands Winterfell actully the two Red Waste episodes were good. only Qarth was bad So that like one part out of eight of season 2 was off, that not bad!

I tend to agree with this. Dany's storyline I felt was incredibly dull. Particularly the House of the Undying, one of the most fascinating scenes in the book, was very underwhelming in the show (although only in retrospect, since I hadn't yet read the books when I watched Season 2 for the first time). And I suppose Jon's 'adventures' beyond the Wall were a bit tedious. King's Landing was amazing though, and Blackwater is one of the best episodes, in my opinion. Furthermore, Season 2 introduced some great new characters like Davos and Melisandre, Brienne and Margaery. I love Renly, so I'm glad that he got at least a few cool scenes before his demise. Obviously I wish they had done more with Catelyn, but that's a general problem of the show and not specific to this season. The thing with Talisa, I'm actually okay with the way they did it, although I would have prefered a Jeyne Westerling type of character and Robb marrying her out of obligation, not love. And then there is Theon's storyline, which was done very well, in my opinion. I'm absolutely no fan of the character (I actually like him much more after he becomes "Reek") - but if I was, I would have been very happy with the way his storyline was presented in Season 2. It's not my favourite season by any means, but it's not the worst one either, in my opinion.
