Hello all, glad to have been introduced to this board by Konradsmith I can't really introduce myself properly but I have worked on the last 3 seasons of GoT and am a massive fan of the show. I've also read all the books. I occasionally contribute to WotW and AFOIAF although I'm avoiding the latter these days. Looking forward to catching up on all the discussions! Awesome! Bet you have 1,000 stories if only you could tell! So glad you're here.

Welcome, newcomers, to the boards! Oh, yeah, German names. <cringes> EDIth: I forgot to add that I'm a freelance translator. I also worked as an editor twice.

My personal un-favourites are the house words, they all sound pathetic because they are translated word by word, so the metaphorical meanings get ridiculed.

King Tyrion I This was what made me go straight to the english literature section. I'm reading in the german wiki currently and since I found out that Deepwood Motte is called 'Tiefwald Motte' I cannot stop laughing.

I guess I should introduce myself... Hello gang! I'm Yara from Boston. I have a real job but my passions are art, photography, poetry and writing. I hope that one day I'll be able to do the things I love for a living but for now, I'll settle gratefully for what I have. I love to travel and I try to go internationally once a year, last year I was lucky enough to visit South America, we visited Brazil and Argentina, it was great especially because it just so happens I can speak some Portuguese and Spanish fluently. Makes a huge difference when you can communicate. Anyhow, I discovered ASOIAF after watching Game of Thrones. I still remember watching the first episode. The first season had started and it was about 5 episodes in, I was bored and decided to give it a watch. As you can imagine I watched all five episodes in one go and the love fair began. After that I decided to read the books. I will be honest, I love the story but I find GRRM's writing style sometimes hard to read, for me personally it doesn't flow as easily as other authors. However, I've enjoyed the story and have re-read my favorite chapters many times. It should be no surprise that I am a loyal supporter of House Targaryen and of course I'm devoted to the First of Her Name Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, etc. I also love House Stark, Blackwood, and I'm intrigued by the Daynes and wish to learn more about them. Edit: Some of my most recent artwork:

^ That's so beautiful, Yara. Really.
I can't draw - and yet I draw. With words.
lauryacarax: <lol>! We could discuss all those names... I'm sure that my belly would hurt. "Deepwood" meaning "Tiefwald" actually makes sense. But "Motte" is obviously quite wrong.

King Tyrion I Based upon a famous thread from The Board That Shall Not Be Named, I suggest 'Rant and rave about stupid german translations' Yo no hablo mucho Aléman. ;o) No me gusto mucho. (Except for some poems and epics. Okay, even some novels. But GoT/ASoIaF? Nope. In other words: I had my share of rave about them.)

When the show decided to name Asha - Yara I was quite surprised. It's not a very common name and you rarely see it, if ever on film or TV. That's awesome. It's a small world after all.... So it is! I actually just drove through the city the other day, my sister played Boston Latin in softball. Only took two hours to get there. Not bad - I work in the city and live just right outside it so I take the T to and fro. It's nice, I wouldn't want to live right in the city because of the complete lack of space but I like living close enough.

Hi, I used to post on Westeros under the the username FalseKnight. Some of you may remember me as something of a troll, but I am not here troll. I heard about this place on iswintercoming.com. Sati, you and I had an argument or two about LSH and Tysha. I apologize if it ever seemed personal. The same apology goes to all the other members of this forum.
I got banned from Westeros merely for answering a question about why some people think Linda shouldn't badmouth the show. Lesson learned: never be helpful on Westeros.

No worries, to be honest I don't even remember, sorry But I had about 100 arguments about LSH so it's not personal over here either

It wasn't a big argument. It was pretty standard. I think the show should avoid resurrection plots, and I never want to hear Peter Dinklage ask where whores go. Thanks for setting up a great forum where I can discuss the books and the show with all of the people I enjoyed at Westeros.

Driving in Boston is so ridiculous sometimes, I almost exclusively use the T. Plus I live about 5 minutes away from Oak Grove so that makes life easier.
