I can tolerate Angie and Leanne in (very) small doses, but I agree that they gave them waaaay too much screen time, especially in the first half of the season. This season made me really appreciate Flaritza though.

has anyone seen the new season yet? I wasn't even aware that it's already out until like two seconds ago I'll try to binge it over the next few days ... I didn't love season five, hope this one's gonna be better

I didn't love season five, hope this one's gonna be better I just finished it. I didn't love it either, but I haven't really loved an OITNB season since S2. I thought it got off to a bad start, the first two episodes I didn't care for at all, but it got better.

I didn't love season five, hope this one's gonna be better It was a mess. Like season 5 it tried to deal with some important and relevant themes but ended up deviating into boring B plots that then became the main thrust of the season. Without major spoilers, Taystee should have been the centre of this season, and Carol and Barbra (those names though) relegated to a couple of episodes subplot. None of the new characters made any good impression on me either. The inmates were boring or ridiculous and I'm tired of every guard being OTT incompetent or evil. I get what they are trying to show but it would be a lot better if they didn't try and be so ott with it, the point would seem more sincere. I missed a lot of the characters that have been phased out. A few things were done well though. The brief examination of Piper's privilege and how that made her a target (her scene with Taystee was one of the better ones). McCullough was probably one of the most interesting characters and a demonstration of more nuanced writing as they showed her coping with the aftermath of the riot. Daya was also well handled as they showed her dealing with the prospect of spending the rest of her life in prison. Fig and Caputo were absolute gold as well

If this show is supposed to examine how for profit prisons do not work...it would be interesting to have a main character that is a guard and tell the story how LITTLE they get paid for the type of job they have to do. I hope that maybe we might see that with the guard that used to work with Taystee but my hopes are not high. I can already tell Badison (or whatever her name is) is going to drive me to sheer annoyance. I will say this episode shows why Uzo Aboda is always nominated for awards though.

I saw the whole season and, as much as I tried, I wasn't invested. The only characters I care about anymore are Taystee, Gloria and Suzanne, the new characters were too over the top to be likable and as you guys have said, they are way too obvious with their "all prison guards are useless and/or sadist". The ending with Flaca was interesting too and it could be relevant in future seasons considering the things that are happening in America right now, and another thing I liked is Piper finally getting out of prison. Now she can either leave the show or have a new storyline other than being scared all the time. Maybe they will show her privilege makes it easier for her to get her life back on track in contrast with Aleida, who had to go back to dealing drugs despite trying to get a legit job for months. Hopefully the show will end soon, otherwise it will become a caricature of what it used to be.

I think they have a few interesting characters and stories, the problem is they focus on all of the boring stuff. I’d rather see more of Taystee, and Cindy, and Gloria/Maria than boring Badison and the infuriating Carol/Barb feud. Even the backstory stuff was dull this season, which is usually a high point of the show imo

I finished the final season. As someone whose had issue with the show since Poussey's death, I was a bit surprised at how emotional I felt over it ending. So many of the characters I love had sad endings, though it's realistic.
Never would've guessed Caputo and Fig would be making morally correct decisions. lol

Linda is such a ridiculous excuse of a character i loved seeing the original guards again, though i just kept thinking of Stranger Things/Dustin’s mother

That's the most annoying loose end.

That's the most annoying loose end. I know right?! He just disappeared off the face of the earth with no warning. His departure was so abrupt i almost had to believe there was behind the scene hijinks! edit: i, happy laverne cox wrangled one final paycheck out of them after the poor handling of Sofia’s character and the trans plotlines/issues

Oh man YES. I cannot understand why Laverne was so sparingly used. She was instantly one of my favorite characters in the first season.

I liked Miss Claudette in Season 1. Unless i missed it we never got a cameo from her, sad. Red and Lorna broke my heart this season. Writing has been very patchy with both of these characters (Morello has an excellent season 2 and then wtf, Red has been up and down worse than my blood sugar) but their endings were well written imo Fuck what they did to Pennsatucky maybe its easier to list the endings i liked versus didnt like. like: red, lorna, nicky, blanca, gloria, maria, flacca, taystee, cindy, fig and caputo dislike: pennsatucky, sofia, frieda, suzanne, lolly (basically all of florida but red and lorna) dont care: alex and piper And fucking larry
