So...how many Valyrian steel swords are there in Westeros, and who has them? Jon, Brienne (what happened to Joff's sword, the other one forged from Ice?) - I'm drawing a blank after those, but surely there are others. [Just a little gripe here before I close this post out. Why does my computer still type Westerns instead of Westeros? After all the times I've had to delete back to correct it, you'd think it would learn.] Aside from the ones you mentioned, Randyll Tarly has Heartsbane. Then I suppose wherever Dark Sister is lying around. Dark Sister? I must have swiss-cheesed that when reading the books. What's that (or who's she, as the case may be)? Thanks for the info!

I just noticed that Dany added the Targaryens to the spokes on a wheel speech. Interesting... Hmmm. Maybe foreshadowing that she'll destroy the Iron Throne? Wheel=Throne? I'm probably reading too much into it lol No, I think that's actually very plausible.

But no one knows where it is.

The show successfully illustrated the dread of the WWs and why Dany is important to the story. Dragons are the only way humans would even have a chance in this fight.

It's also interesting that Tyrion mentioned the events surrounding Dany's birth, i.e. The greatest storm Westeros has ever know. Wonder if that'll be important later.

After watching how they've done Hardhome, I'm trying to picture a Season 7 battle involving the WW vs a force bolstered by the dragons and I keep jizzing in my pants.

I never really understood that in the books either. I didn't think it was a big deal but they kept bringing it up. Stormborn as a nickname too. Wonder if it is important or just a random thing?

Honestly, this episode sold me on the power and the excitement of the White Walker threat in a way the books never dead, with them not even appearing for two books. I now have a great deal more faith that the endgame will deliver

I think it's just a handy metaphor for the tumultuous background to Dany's birth.

So there's no Varamyr I guess (unless one of the random Wildling leaders were supposed to be him). Also Rattleshirt getting bootstomped 60 seconds into the scene was certainly satisfying. It's possible they gender-swapped the part they'd written as Varamyr and turned it into Karsi, I guess.

It's still possible that Jon talks with a dude named Varamyr before he gets got. Unlikely but could still happen.

Yeah of course! There's gotta be a reason they were born other then being cool lol. Maybe I'm crazy but I thought it was confirmed already that valyrian steel kills WW? In the books somewhere? Dragonglass yes, but not Valyrian Steel. I saw where you quoted me and I need to clarify my points: I know the difference between Valyrian steel and dragonglass and both are known from the books to possibly kill the Others from Sam's study of old books at Castle Black's library which holds records of the Night's Watch since it began. It was called "Dragonsteel" and Sam and Jon discuss it potentially being Valyrian steel. There are many discussions over the years about it and most book fans have agreed it's definitely valyrian steel which is why GRRM played that up so much with the very rare blades that belong to only hand full of houses these days. If you follow the reddit link I posted, it gives a pretty good rundown of the valyrian steel blades and who currently has them in Westeros: www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/21t93e/Also a list on the wiki: awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Valyrian_steelI guess I thought it was common knowledge amongst devout book fans that Valyrian steel blades were considered to be one of the ways men of Westeros might be able to combat the Others. I didn't realize many people hadn't picked up on those theories and I'm really so very excited they revealed it on the show!

I tweeted Sue from WOTW to see if she knew anything about Varamyr, if she answers I'll report back here.

I liked Sam's bit of foreshadowing for Jon. "He always comes back."

It's possible they gender-swapped the part they'd written as Varamyr and turned it into Karsi, I guess. Varamyr's defining characteristic is that he's a skin-changer. I have a hard time believing you bother calling a character you want to cast that name without the intention of him keeping that characteristic. They may have just changed their mind but it's the first time that I'm aware of that a character on a casting call didn't end up appearing in the show.
