I love David Bowie. This is one of my favourite songs of his: I've been singing the opening of that song a ton recently actually. I watched a video about his vocal range (basically compiling his lowest and highest recorded notes) and since I'm probably a baritone too though I tend to sing higher, I've been trying to see if I can hit all of those low notes he does here. Though I guess the real challenge would be to sing that really long note he does when he sings "gasoline" for the first time.

Yeah, Bowie's vocal range is impressive. I'm a tenor (that's probably the reason why I feel so comfortable singing show tunes) and on good days, I can go pretty high (don't take this out of context please ) - but I have difficulties singing the low notes in the beginning of that song. I mean, I could sing them, but they would come out sounding forced and unnatural.

Which is still fun but it probably doesn't help me much as a singer.
Though I'm technically not one I tend to sing in a tenor's range most of the time too actually, though it does take straining too much of the time and falsetto where actual tenors don't need to use it. That's mostly because I learned to sing by always having to sing higher harmonies back in the band I was in in high school. I've only really figured out what my range ought to be really in the last few years and it's much lower than I was always going for back then. Even now though I listen to so much Beatles stuff that I can't help but to keep trying to sing higher even though it's probably bad for my voice to keep at it too much.

I love Bowie too.
One of my favorite Bowie songs doesn't even really sound like Bowie.

I love Bowie too. One of my favorite Bowie songs doesn't even really sound like Bowie. A lot of crazy barely-veiled euphemism going on in this one. The Man Who Sold the World is a great album.

Harry Nilsson had a pretty memorable song featuring the phrase "fuck you" some forty years before Cee Lo Green it seems...

I'm really digging your taste in music, dude. Then it's time to bring Tom Jones into the equation. Here's my favourite-ever Bond theme...
And Tom Jones a few years ago covering a Bob Dylan song.

A Canadian 2-piece group I've been playing a lot lately. I love their rock style, but also their videos.
Completely forgot about this hilarious video

Big fan of this band, discovered them through the Gorillaz:
edited to add a couple more videos. Yukimi's voice never fails to give me chills:

I just watched that recent movie about Brian Wilson, Love and Mercy, the other day and it features this song that I'd never heard before in one really interesting sequence in the movie. I'd considered myself a Beach Boys aficionado these past few years but apparently I wasn't. How could I be if I'd never heard this? Anyways it's a great song.
