and his awful Shireen hating wife Oh yes, definitely her too... she needs to lose her head or get shoved out the moon door. She and Lysa both bat shit crazy! Agree absolutely - definitely not a Stannis fan at all in the books but coming to see him as pretty great in the show. Another agree absolutely as to "his awful Shireen hating wife" (well said!) I'd give the very best performance, though, to the actress who plays Shireen. She's been great in all of her scenes, but I thought this one was off the charts.

Totally agree! I think they've written his parts so well (as compared to some really questionable lines by other characters) that he's a lot more likable than he was in the books. Maybe it has a lot to do with Stephen Dillane's superb acting but in the books I found him boring and unlikable and in the show I'm actually rooting for him more and think he'd make a pretty damn good king overall if he ditches that red bitch and her nauseating religion. Amazing how drastically the opinion has shifted on Show Stannis. Back in Season 3, Stannis fans wanted to kill D&D. I have never been a Stannis hater (or lover). It's my ambivalence that makes this more interesting for me because whereas in the books I didn't care one way or the other if he succeeded or failed, I'm now rooting for him. Again, it has a lot to do with the actor portraying him so well. I also loved show Tywin ten times more than book Tywin because Charles Dance just slayed the part of Tywin and that does make all the difference. Conversely, to flip it around the other way. I loved Daenarys in the books even when I thought she was making horrible decisions. I had a vastly different image of her in my mind and even though I like Emelia Clarke overall, it's just never gelled for me as much on the show with Dany's story. The saving grace there is the kickass dragon CGI and beautiful scenery / sets for her journey.

I'm with the majority on this one. Stannis and Shireen/Dany and Selmy were the best performances of the episode, although the other actors were by no means weak.

Stephen Dillane and Kerry Ingram. I know I'd probably get stoned for saying this, but I think Kerry is the best young actress on the show. I've never not watched a scene with her and have not come away impressed. Ian M.

Sophie is very hit or miss. Maisie is good depending on the material she was given. I didn't think Maisie was that great in season 4. Rory Mc Cann saved that storyline but it seems like Maisie's returning to form this season so far. But Kerry Ingram, given the fact that Shireen is a smaller role than Arya and Sansa, doesn't get the attention the other two get and that's understandable because Shireen is a supporting role. But she slays every scene she's in. I hope she gets a ton of roles after this. I think she's consistently better than some of the adult actors on the show.
