The Obelisk Gate was awesome, as expected. Read it in two days, and now I'm sad I'll have to wait another year till the final instalment. After that I reread Cloud Atlas, one of my absolute favourite books ever (love the film too, by the way). Now I'm reading some of the Terry Prattchet books I never got around to, starting with Going Postal

I finished Dead Wake about the sinking of the Lusitiana (really good book, I highly recommend). Now I am reading Stiff by Mary Roach, it's about research using cadavers over the years. I read her book Spook and really enjoyed it and even though this topic makes me squeamish, I'm learning a lot.

Just finished "Citizen" by Claudia Rankine. Required for school. Good message. Terrible execution. One of the most bizarrely assembled, trying-to-be-artsy, pointlessly confusing books I've ever read. Almost unreadable as far as I'm concerned. It's kind of a commentary on racism/blacklivesmatter/type of thing, but the message was lost in the rambling paragraphs, blank pages, and weird artwork. Glad it was short. 0/10 worst book hated it

I looked up her other books last night: there is Bonk (about the science of sex), Gulp (about eating), Grunt (I think that is about war and disease), and Packing for Mars. maryroach.net/books-news.html

Oh my God! Facebook post from my friend, Keija Kaarina Parssinen: Excited to share the news that my first novel, THE RUINS OF US, will be published in Arabic by the Syrian Ministry of Culture in two weeks! Here is a review of the book from a Syrian arts and culture magazine, written by the novel's translator, Mohamed Alabdullah.

I'm very late to the party, but I bought The Girl on the Train earlier. It'll arrive tomorrow, I'm excited to read it.

I am reading lots and lots of essays for my class, and my students' essays. *eyes cross* I also just started "The Moons of Jupiter" by Alice Monroe. Came by because I just saw that two of my favorite writers are in the top 10 for the Nobel Prize in Literature this year, Don Delillo and Haruki Murakami! I might have to reread my favorite of their books, White Noise and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I see at least two other Americans on the list, Phillip Roth and Joyce Carol Oates. blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2016/10/11/nobel-prize-in-literature-who-will-it-be-this-year/

I started reading The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber.
About 15 pages in and interesting so far.

I can't wait to tell my husband this. He cannot take Bob Dylan seriously at all. Because he can imitate him but really doesn't understand a word the man says. Of course if my husband was giving out the Nobel Prize for Literature he'd probably give it to Timothy Zahn.

I certainly respect Bob Dylan's work, but I'm feeling a bit grumpy about him getting the Literature award. I had to look up who Timothy Zahn is.

This morning I read The Diary of Edward the Hamster. A friend of mine said I should read it and I did, and I liked it, I just don't think it's worth the 8 euros I paid for the kindle version. It's super short, I finished it in like twenty minutes. But yeah, it was cute ...

I finished The Book of Strange New Things and that's a book that really stuck with me. Curious to see how they translate it into a possible TV show.
I started reading American Heiress by Jeffrey Toobin (he also wrote The Run of His Life about the OJ Simpson trial). This one is about Patty Hearst, her kidnapping and times with the SLA and the aftermath. Really good so far.

Started reading the Expanse novels since I loved S1 of the TV show so much. Not really one for sci-if books, I prefer fantasy, or 19th/20th century literature, but I'm loving these so far.
