Hello love, I'm the new butler. Albert Covington's the name! Is your mum about? It just occurred to me that this is pretty much the plot from her Fox show The Mick, except it's not wholesome.

It's no Always Funny but it has its moments. It's worth watching if you like Kaitlin Olson.

The world's a safer place, when he is around. Did you ever know that you're my hero? Cause you're the wind beneath my wings.

I love how we talk about Fat Mac as if he's an entirely separate character

what is this "hulu" thou speakest of? It's a Netflix wanna be streaming service that plays ads during shows even if you pay the monthly fee. That's where Always Sunny is going.

I have this crazy theory. I think Charlie might actually be the most intelligent member of the gang. Think about it, while all his friends constantly fail and destroy everything they touch, Charlie actually pulls off some rather impressive schemes throughout the course of the series. The best example for this would probably be the episode Charlie Work, but there are other examples, too. Charlie is also by far the most artistic member of the gang.
What Charlie lacks the most is not intelligence, but a formal education. The mere fact that he developed his own writing system, because he's never been taught how to read properly, is borderline genuis by itself.
Like his friends, Charlie is an alcoholic, and has been pretty much his entire life, but he also huffs paint like a pro - so it's pretty safe to assume that he's genuinely messed up in the head to an extent, which would explain some of his stranger quirks. And I think we can blame his complete lack of social skills on his terrible upbringing. It is also implied that he was molested as a child, which could have led to some deep rooted traumas and complexes that are holding him back. And lastly, the terrible influence his friends often have on him is just the icing on the cake.
I don't actually think Charlie is secretely super smart, but I think Charlie had a potential at some point that he unfortunately never lived up to. I don't think the same can be said for some of the others. Makes it all the more tragic that everyone sees him as the idiot of the group.
