For all of my fellow The Room fans, I present to you Fateful Findings:
Currently streaming on Amazon Prime(in America). This is a genuinely awful film that is truly entertaining.

Saw Call Me By Your Name and The Shape of Water. Both were good but Armie Hammer was so wooden in CMBYN and he was in no way believable as a 24 year old.

It really doesn't matter if Armie Hammer passes as a 24-ýear-old - the exact age of his character is irrelevant. After all, the noticable age difference between the two lovers is an integral part of the story. Oliver is taller, older, more physically mature than Elio, and he exudes an extreme amount of handsomeness and confidence in every action. It is Oliver's carefree attitude that Elio feels annoyed with initially, but which soon turns into intrigue, then attraction and finally obsession.
Hammer is as strapping as he is charming, and it is easy to see how a young and impressionable gay man would fall in love with someone like him. When I was 17, I would have given everything to have someone as confident, as handsome and masculine as Oliver.
Call Me By Your Name is carried by the performances of its two lead actors, and I honestly thought both Hammer and Chalamet were wonderful. They both did some of their best work in this movie.

To me it did. I was never not aware that this was a grown ass man fooling around with a teenager. It's easier to think of someone in their early 20's doing this, but not a man who looks well into his 30's. I really felt he was miscast. Chalamet had to carry their scenes together. IMO of course.

I honestly don't think Armie Hammer looks that old. Chalamet was not a teenager when they shot the movie either, the actors are only like nine years apart.
I don't know, I've read the book many, many years ago, and I've always imagined Oliver to look distinctively older and more masculine than Elio. To me, that's part of the story (which in the book is told from Elio's perspective by the way). If they had cast two actors who both look more or less the same age, it would have lost some of its appeal.

Chalamet's age isn't a big deal, but he looks 17 in that film. There was a huge contrast between the two. They just needed someone to look like they're in their 20s. Hammer doesnt for me.

There's an angry Facebook group dedicated to giving all of Disney's movies negative user review scores on Rotten Tomatoes. They claim to have done it with the last Star Wars movie and are campaigning to do it again with Black Panther and Solo. I thought this was a joke but I checked and it actually does exist
