Hahaha! I agree with Kenny, though. I like 'em. There's absolutely nothing wrong with cargo shorts. Sometimes we wear things for comfort and function, it's not always to appear sexy to the opposite sex. Imagine the outrage if GQ posted an article like "Women! Stop wearing loose-fitting clothes!" Followed by a parade of images of goofy looking women. Magazines have been telling women what we can't wear for years! Have you ever looked through one? There's often a segment where they take pictures of poorly dressed women on the streets and just put a bar over their eyes to "hide" their identities. One thing I have always loved about men is that they don't fall prey to that shit...and now y'all are starting to fall prey to that shit. Stay strong, Y chromosomes.

I've never seen anything like that, but outside of Playstation mags from the 90s, they've never been my thing, and print is essentially dead now anyway. I was trying to come up with a male equivalent for buzzfeed, which I couldn't, but I'm sure there is. Anyway I found the cargo shorts article to be shallow and mean.

The article is incredibly shallow and mean. I agree. Cargo shorts remind me of the 90s, camping, skateboarding, hanging out smoking pot while someone strums a guitar. They have a special place in my heart, and Buzz Feed can get bent. Here's a website dedicated to making fun of poorly dressed people (mostly women): www.gofugyourself.com/

It's amazing how like-minded people can come together and normalize a mean spirited attitude toward others. Did you see the Neon Demon? It was one of my favorite movies of last year because it made the fashion world seem hostile and alien.

I thought they perfectly captured how mean-spirited and predatory that world is. I haven't been it, but one my friends in college was a model, and I saw what that did to her. Most insecure person I knew. Her entire worth was based on her image and how people responded to it. I hated fashion for a long time. I still hate the fashion world, and I flat refuse to pay a shitload of money for clothes. I didn't develop a style until I stopped paying attention to that stuff. I love my clothes now, and getting dressed to go to work is fun because I literally like all my outfits. And I paid sale price or second-hand for all of it.

None of those sites/magazines look like they're written by or even read by guys. Trendique? Really? When you look at the fashion world, straight men really aren't involved, we just don't care about fashion. Things are changing with the metrosexual trend in bigger cities, but it's been a slow process, and the biggest fashion trend among young, middle class men is probably the hipster movement which embraces irony and cheap, ugly looking clothing. I personally have no idea what looks good on me, and whenever I go shopping for clothes, which is rarely, I bring along one of my female friends for help.

Women internalize what they think men want to see, and then they beat each other over the head with it. "Fashion." Most of the first successful designers of women's clothes were gay men, and no offense to gay dudes, but they had no interest in making clothes that fit a variety of female body types. They just designed clothes for smaller male bodies. "Fashion."

I see similar trends, to a much smaller degree, in the tv industry. Appearance is very important and they are much stricter with women. The news manager takes each female anchor to the salon and decides how her hair should look. It's something which is totally absurd to me and seems to be completely oblivious to one of the biggest complaints average people have to the media, which is that they are not relatable. Men can get away with much more in regards to their appearance. The only thing I've seen is that they told one of our weather guys to lose weight, and they don't really want anybody sporting facial hair.

I don't know why that surprises me, but it really does. Did they tell the weather guy he needed to lose weight in front of people? I sure hope not. When I worked for Texas Attorney General John Cornyn, before he became Senator Cornyn, I got to see how their handlers maintain their image when they're running for office. It's really creepy to me. They had every single moment of his day planned out with remarks for how he should look when exiting a car, everything. I answered the phones when reporters called, and I didn't like certain policies, like that favored journalists were put right through and reporters who did their jobs and called Cornyn into question didn't get their calls returned. That was when I decided I didn't want to go any further in government public relations. I switched to policy.

One of the things I see quite often in terms of women being told "Stop wearing this!" is leggings. I don't care what people wear myself but my flatmate gets all angry when she sees the "stop wearing leggings" thing. They are her comfort clothes, according to her. I pretty much live in jeans so look elsewhere for fashion Dress code laws are really stupid too and even today employers still do shit like tell women they have to wear heels and make up. Fuck that. on another note

I would assume it is common practice in the industry, except bigger markets have their own hair and makeup people that work out of the station. I would imagine that people like Megyn Kelly have enough clout to decide how they look once they get far enough in their career. It was probably years of climbing the ladder before she could get away with rocking the pixie cut. They didn't tell him in public. We used to get lunch together every day and he would order a lot of food, like two big mac combos, chicken nuggets, two fries, etc. And he'd eat it all before I finished my medium combo. One day he ordered just one combo and I was like 'what's wrong, did they ask you to lose weight?' and he frowned and nodded. Magazines have been telling women what we can't wear for years! On behalf of straight men everywhere, we never wanted women to stop wearing leggings. In fact, nobody was more enthusiastic about this exciting new trend than us.

His heart probably appreciated the decrease in combos, though. I haven't seen people eat like that since high school.
