Anyone else watching Defenders? I'd love to hear what you guys think. I'll hopefully get through the first few episodes tonight! I've still not bothered with the rest of Iron Fist, but hopefully I won't be too lost.

I'm so pleased videos like this exist so I don't have to read a long Wikipedia page, or even worse: watch Iron Fist.

I tried watching The Defenders. I thought i could understand the story despite the fact i didn't watch Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.
I halted. And turned to watch Jessica Jones. I learned my lesson.

I saw episode 6 last night, and I'll probably finish the series tonight. Alexandra dying already feels like kind of a waste after she was hyped up so much. Does anyone else not buy Luke Cage's "I don't believe in that mystic stuff." I'm sorry but you live in a world where aliens attacked New York and people like Thor and Wanda Maximoff exist. Is a dragon really that hard to imagine?

Kinda did my review for me Basil ; I agree with everything you said. The story itself is kinda 'meh', even a little cliché in some parts, but the real strength and enjoyment of the show is in the characters. The four Defenders are great together, and I like that it doesn't take too long for them to meet and team up. It's clear from this that whatever the problem with Iron Fist was, it wasn't the actors. Danny and Colleen are a lot more likeable than they were in their own series. It's pretty unbelievable actually how much better they are. I liked that Colleen and Misty (and obviously Claire) got lots of screentime, but I'm a bit miffed about that my favourite supporting characters were pushed to the side, like Trish and Karen. I even wanted more Foggy now that he's got reasonable hair! The villains are pretty good too. They don't hold a candle to the likes of Fisk or (imo) Kilgrave unfortunately. I really enjoyed the new guy, Murakami, even though he's actually really bland. I just think he's just cool The action and choreography in this is soooo good. They continue their streak of doing long takes for fight scenes - there's two of them in the series in fact, and they're both AMAZING, I especially love the second. I like how in the opening episodes, the Defenders' individual scenes are all shot to create certain hues. Luke's apartment has lots of yellow, they give different shots of Matt's church to show off all the reds, Jessica's office doesn't seem to have a bulb so all the lighting in her scenes is blue. Alexandra is always wearing and surrounded by extravagant whites and golds. It's not exactly subtle, but very aesthetically pleasing. So.. the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Justice League, and now the Defenders. Does every superhero team have to start with the members fighting each other? One semi-disappointment I had was with Alexandra. I thought she was initially quite promising, but then she explained that she just wants to live forever because her daughter died and it's just kinda...yawn. It's not bad, she just could have been so much better. And then Elektra just killed her but I'm not entirely clear why. I get that she wanted to be free from her "masters" but I don't understand why she started to think that way in the first place. On the topic of Alexandra, I had this sort of crackpot theory that she was Matt's mother, since we've yet to see her and Alexandra could be around the right age. But nope! I assume we'll be getting to see her in either Daredevil S3 or Defenders S2, whichever comes first. She's clearly responsible for Matt's survival, so I hope they explain it. Also I must've skipped the part in Iron Fist where Gao learns how to use the Force. That was confusing as hell when she knocked down that door Ah shit I've just done another Rogue One and typed a massive nerdy review that no one's gonna read

Finished it. Pretty good overall but it had its flaws.
I'm a forever bitter Clairedevill shipper.
Man the editing/directing in episode 7 was awful.

I wish the season was one or two episodes longer, so they could have had more screentime for some of the secondary characters. Patsy, Foggy and Karen were basically glorified cameos, and it was disappointing, to say the least, to have Claire and Matt in the same room several times, without them interacting or even acknowledging each other. I was waiting for it the whole time, but it just didn't happen, Claire only really interacted with the characters from Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
They could and should have had more scenes between characters like Jessica and Trish (their relationship was one of my favourite aspects of Jessica Jones) and Matt and Karen. Season 2 of Daredevil ended with Matt telling Karen who he is, I really wish they had shown the immediate aftermath of that scene, not them just casually talking about it months later.
That was probably my biggest gripe with Defenders. All the secondary characters, apart from Colleen and Claire, were treated very poorly.

For all the talk of "the more connections you have, the easier it will be to break you" from the trailers, nothing really came of it. Despite putting all the supporting characters together, they didn't really do anything with each other. It would've been nice to actually see the Hand try to act on their threats by attacking the precinct, if mainly to give the others something to do instead of sit around.

The lack of the Punisher was kind of disappointing. I realise he's not a part of the team, but to not even have him show up kinda sucked. I mean, he was easily the best part about Daredevil season 2.
I'm glad to see they're finally trying to evolve Danny by having everyone else point out how stupid he is. As someone who didn't absolutely hate the series, at least they're trying to do something with it.

No idea how I didn't watch it for so long but I finally started the Defenders. First episode was ok but nothing special. I still don't care about Danny and opening the series with a (very poorly lit) fight sequence of his was a mistake, I felt my interest slipping immediately. But I'll see it through. I already forgot what happened in IF though

I already forgot what happened in IF though Iron Fist remains largely a very boring character. Though he and Luke Cage actually work well off of each other, with Luke giving him so, advice, so to speak. I found this wierd, because individually these two are kinda bland lemons. Unsurprisingly, Daredevil and Jess remain the best two characters. Also, Sigourney Weaver's character is fucking awesome. No spoilers.

When your powers are "can't be hurt" and "can punch", it gets pretty uninspired real fast.

Well I finished the Defenders. A mixed bag for me. I liked it overall but as others said it was lacking the necessary time the side characters should have had - Hogarth, Foggy, Karen, Malcom, Trish...I loved the scenes they were in but not nearly enough time dedicated to them. Also, I’m still aboard Team Trishicca and so her talk with Karen almost gave me a heart attack when they each referred to Matt and Jess as their special friends. The Hand was always a bad villain group imo, and not much changed my opinion in this series. Alexandra was portrayed well by Weaver but her motivations were pretty yawn inducing and unbelievable. As was her decision to resurrect Electra as the Black Sky but I can overlook that because Electra and Matt’s scenes were among my favourites. I also have a real soft spot for Gao as a villain with all her sweet talking and badassery Not sure I am happy with Matt surviving as far as stretching believability. I’ll rese4ve full judgment until I see how they had him escape but at present it’s a big NOPE.
