Season 3 was not bad.
It was definitely going to be hard for them to live up to how good season 1 was, and even though 2 and 3 weren't as good they aren't even close to being considered bad.

No, it wasn't terrible - just really convoluted and lots of loose strings in the plot is all. I was probably being a little more critical in my summary because I binge watched the entire season and that changes your perception because it's like watching one reaaaally long movie! I do have a question for those of you more knowledgeable on the story - it's about Rachel: I'm having a hard time understanding exactly whose side she's on now after the pencil-to-eye incident (ugh!) with Sarah. She agreed to help them out deciphering the book but then that was a complete setup, right? She just wanted the book? She didn't actually want out of Dyad? Or she did, and they took her back? I think I need to re-watch those episodes, I really lost the plot there on what her whole angle was about. I know she ends up somewhere Neolution put her and that they are apparently the real masters pulling the strings, not Topside. Someone please explain her whole plot to me in Season 3!
Also, why the fuck would she want to do to Kira (and later Charlotte) the same thing that was done to her... taken from her parents and raised in an institution like that? That made no sense to me. It twisted her and made her a miserable person so why put another little girl through that?
Thanks for helping a newbie who rushed the series understand this crazy story! Love it so far and looking forward to next season.

Thanks for helping a newbie who rushed the series understand this crazy story! Love it so far and looking forward to next season. Well, as I see it, Rachel was still on Dyad's side. The only reason she helped with the book was to a) try to get back something that she considered hers (the book) b) regain power in Dyad, after what happened to her last season she was ruined; as the only one who can translate the book and give Dyad access to the original genome she is incredibly important. She was still pro Dyad, but she wanted to get away from Delphine because Delphine hated her and would have never let her get her old position back. What she didn't know was that she would end up with the neolutionist. And yes, it was a set-up she prepared with her doctor. Rachel would never help the other clones, specially Sara. Rachel only cares about Rachel, she considers herself better than the other clones because she was self-aware since she was a child and she loved to be the clone who knew more than the rest. And finally, Rachel wants to be a mother, she showed it pretty clearly in season 2 when she asked her father why Sara was fertile but she wasn't. I don't think Rachel wants to do to Kira or Charlotte what Dyad did to her, I think she actually wants to be a mother and get back part of the family she had as a child, before the explosion. But the only way she can do that is if Dyad backs her up, so she has to play by their rules, and because she grow up that way, she doesn't see how messed up her plan actually is. Also she is a very fucked up individual.

Also she is a very fucked up individual. Ah ok, this all makes much more sense, thank you for explaining it, I got really lost there for a bit on that storyline! And yes, Rachel is very fucked up which is why I think she's delusional about raising another little girl inside the institutional environment. How can she possibly imagine that would be healthy or that she could somehow make it better?! Obviously it's part of her narcissistic view of herself being better than the others and somehow smarter and better suited. I actually felt sorry for her during her 'recovery' and learning to speak again. I hoped maybe she would really go through a redemption arc but if she does it's not going to be until she figures out how bad Neolution is later on I guess.

I think she did want to escape DYAD, she seemed to think she really would be starting a new life in Euope and that she didn't realize Dr. Nealon was a Neolutionist. He obviously didn't tell her he was sending her back to her mother, who she didn't even know was still alive. I do feel bad for her when it comes to her parents, the Duncans basically both abandoned her and left her to be fucked up by Leekie and the others, and when she was reunited with Dr. Duncan he rejected her by committing suicide, which is the kind of thing that would just fuck someone up even worse.

Damn I'm excited. Of course, I'll probably end up waiting until September/October to see S4. Because BBC don't have their shit together

istg there better not be any love triangle bullshit between shay x cosima x delphine this season. and I hope Allison actually contributes to events this season.
Very excited about Rachel, but I hope she actually regains some power and agency this season, sure, she uses it badly, but it was heartbreaking to watch at times. And more Scott, please. And some Vic.
